Another famous 1930s tune: "Living in a Great Big Way", performed here by the greats of Classic Hollywood: Jeni LeGon [vocals], 'Bojangles' Robinson [tap-dancing] and 'Fats' Waller [piano & vocals]

Jeni LeGon over seventy years later, dancing to the exact same track:

This thread is nearly a dozen pages long. Has anyone recommended the Charleston yet?

Danced here by Ginger Rogers, to the titular tune...the Charleston:

Has anyone posted Raymond Scott yet?
I really like his frenetic band work of the 1930s. Quite unique.

Jeni LeGon over seventy years later, dancing to the exact same track:

Jeni LeGon is a friend of mine; she guested on my radio show a couple of years ago. She doesn't get out much these days, but she's still bopping around when she can.
She got her start as a Soubrette in the Count Basie chorus line at the age of 16, and toured the Chitlin' Circuit with the Whitman Sisters' troupe that launched the career of Bill Bojangles Robinson. From there she was managed by the same manager as Ethel Waters and then went to Hollywood, being the first African American woman to be signed to a major studio contract. She wrote a song for Lena Horne, had two songs written for her by Fats Waller, and remembers that the only white couple that ever invited her and her husband for dinner was Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler. She also worked with Gloria Dunham and was one of the cast of the first Black television show. It's been an honor to know her.

Which brings me to my recommendation- the greatest swing band of all time - the 1938-1941 Count Basie Orchestra.

Recommended recordings: "The Complete Decca Recordings" (a must have), "America's #1 Band".

The Imperial Dance Orchestra was a recording pseudonym for Adrian Schubert and his Salon Orchestra. "Rodman Lewis," the vocalist is only a pseudonym, the real vocalist is Harold "Scrappy" Lambert.

"What Do I Care?" is your typical, your everyday kind of 1930s pop tune( that i love so much! hope you all like it too! :))

Ben Selvin's Knickerbockers (vocals by Franklyn Baur ) - Thou Swell 1927 .

Music written by Rodgers and Hart, for the 1927 musical A Connecticut Yankee. The lyrics , as indicated by the title, are a mix of old English and modern slang.

"Bye-Bye, Pretty Baby !" .... The Broadway Nitelites (1927)

The Broadway Nitelites were one of several aliases for the band led by Ben Selvin, by some counts the most recorded bandleader of the 78rpm era, and one of the most influential men in the industry for most of the century.

The voice of Irving Kaufman is unmistakable. I just added it to my Favorites! As always, Hads, you've picked another winner. :)

Glad you liked it V.C.! :D

Now, here, Cab Calloway of Cotton Club, and Bert Lown's Orchestra of New Yorks 's Hotel Biltmore are playing the same song ... I can't make up my mind which version I like better! (I think both! :p)

Just discovered Gus Viseur, 1930s French jazz accordianist. Here's one of his tracks. Folks who like Disney/Pixar films may recognise this tune from the animated short 'Geri's Game':

Another one of his tracks:
