Go back to the days of Swinging Shanghai. In the 1920s and 1930s, Shanghai's International Settlement was Party Central in the Far East. Written in 1924 and performed here in 1934, is "Shanghai Shuffle", by Fletcher Henderson, capturing the decadance and extravagance of prewar Asia:

In the 20s and 30s, the British naval base and crown colony of Singapore, nicknamed the Gibraltar of the East, was another popular Asian playground for wealthy westerners. Here's Glenn Miller and His Orchestra playing "On A Little Street in Singapore":

Imagine that you're at the Ballroom of the luxurious Raffles Hotel, sipping cocktails in the tropical heat with the Raffles Dance Ochestra playing in the background...

And here's one of the premiere dance bands in Shanghai in the 1920s: Whitey Smith and his Majestic Hotel Dance Orchestra performing Whitey Smith's own composition Nighttime In Old Shanghai.

And one last "Shangai Lil"? (very short version, please forgive... but you get the idea :))

Busby Berkeley’s dazzling masterpiece from the movie Footlight Parade (1933) with James Cagney and Ruby Keeler ... that's tapping! :D:D

Shanghai International Settlement: The Canidrome Ballroom; 1930s. With...

...its house band: Buck Clayton and His Harlem Gentlemen:

Buck Clayton and his band left Shanghai in 1937, before the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War. The Canidrome was pulled down in 2005 because it was deemed impractical (and too expensive) to restore and modernise.

The Chocolate Dandies.
Fletcher Henderson.
Anything that Benny Carter was involved in.
Duke Ellington. Any era. Doesn't matter.
Benny Moten.
McKinney's Cotton Pickers.
Andy Kirk & anything else Mary Lou Williams was involved in.
Fats Waller.
Anything that Teddy Wilson was involved in - his Brunswick 1930's recordings are gold. Solid. Freakin'. Gold.
Small group Benny Goodman.
Artie Shaw.
Chick Webb.
Count Basie.
Willie Bryant.
Erskine Hawkins.
Charlie Barnet.
Django Reinhardt.
Bunny Berigan.
Jack Purvis.
Frankie Trumbauer and anything with Bix Beiderbecke.
Louis Armstrong.
Henry "Red" Allen.
Wingy Manone.
Red Nichols.
Sidney Bechet.
Jelly Roll Morton.

The rest are pretenders. Except sometimes when Cab Calloway released a good record amongst all the pop-py stuff.

After the breakup of his Creole Jazz Band, King Oliver came back with a bigger band: the Dixie Syncopators:
