Lucy & Desi

Recommend the DVD of Lucy & Desi in "The Long Long Trailer". This circa 1954 MGM film shot in color was made during the height of the Lucy craze on TV

Cute little period piece shows IMO that Desi himself was just as talented as Lucy was. Check it out!

IMO, Desi was a very talented straight man but when he tried to be funny, he came up short.[huh]

I remember hearing a Bill Stern's sports newsreel that had Lucille Ball as a guest. He tells the story of a lady car racer who had a horrible wreck and was lucky to survive, Lucille Ball agreed that it had happened to her.
Has anyone else ever heard this story? I'm pretty sure the story was made up as publicity for her new movie (I think it was Easy to Wed).

Sincerely,
The WOLF

The Long Long Trailer is one of my favorite movies that starred Ms. Ball.

There was another Lucy/Desi movie, I'm not sure if it was made before or after "The Long Long Trailer", but I can't remember the name of it...

I don't even remember much of the plot, except Lucy keeps dreaming about James Mason.

Anybody know the name?

Forever Darling from 1956. The IMDB plot summary is:

Susan and Lorenzo have been married for over five years and they are starting to drift apart. So into her life comes an angel, which only Susan can see, to tell her that there will be trouble ahead if they do not work out their problems. Lorenzo is developing insecticide #383 at Finlay Vega Chemical Co. and plans to test it on a camping trip that he takes with Susan, but the trip becomes a an obstacle course for him.

Very good maintcoder, I had the name, but couldn't recall it :eusa_doh:

While they may have been equal in talent, it was Lucy who had the brains.
Desi was a womanizer, drinker and not focus on work as Lucy was, sadly this caused the break up:eek:

I prefer Lucille Ball, "Movie Star" over her well-known TV persona. Her work in Stage Door, The Dark Corner and Du Barry Was a Lady, among many other movies, and she is vastly superior to the character we get when she is in "Lucy Mode" during The Long, Long Trailer and either of her long-running TV sitcoms. Beautiful, too.:D

I Love Lucy

When they were casting the TV show in the early 1950's the network big wigs were very shaky on using Desi Arnez, a Cuban bongo playing band leader. Desi turned out to be a sensation on the show. IMO later Lucy revival shows were not the same without her former Husband.

Remember Lucy & Desi were doing sketch comedy, not standup. lol

And...

she was quite an actress, not just in comedic roles although she really shined in that medium. I really enjoy her turn as a dancer who goes undercover in 'Lured' with George Sanders, Charles Coburn, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, and Boris Karloff. Also, let's not forget her role in 'Stage Door' along side Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn, Eve Arden, and Gail Patrick (she apparently noted it was her 'big break') and 'Without Love' with Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and Keenan Wynn.

Stage Door is one of my all-time favorite movies; just got the DVD and a nice repro of the movie poster. I was impressed (but not surprised) that Lucy more than held her own against that cast...Same with my beloved Ginger Rogers going toe-to-toe with The Great Kate!

Mame

Lucille Ball’s version was titled Mame in 1974, not yet released on DVD and Although I prefer Rosalind Russell’s 1958 Auntie Mame, I take nothing away from Ms Ball, I enjoy her more in the 1930’s, 1940’s; haven’t seen all her career films, I like these than the later years, I Love Lucy show was great, she was an outstanding female funny lady, talent and smarts to beat :eusa_clap

Apparently, from what I've seen, TCM will only be showing Ms. Ball's films on Wednesdays. Usually, when they feature someone as the star of the month, their films are shown Tues. and Thurs. or Mon. and Wed. Does Ms. Ball not have enough films to fill this schedule? I'm a bit disappointed. :(
