Chicago is a great city. I'm sure once you settle in and acquire new friends you will be comfortable. Yes, there are bad neighborhoods, as most cities have but you will learn when and where to go to enjoy yourself.

If you're looking for a hat place, check out Optimo on the south side in Beverly. Great folks and awesome hats.

Hopefully the weather will improve by the time you get here, but best of luck to you in your move. There are a lot of great things here-if you're into music we have a top notch Symphony and Opera company. If you like art or history, our museums are some of the best in the country, and of course don't let me forget Chicago blues and jazz. You'll find it ingrained in the culture in many areas still. There is so much history here and it has been well preserved but mingles nicely with the new and shiny. You'll have a great time exploring!
