When my missus came home with the latest Caro Emerald CD, a couple of years ago, something about that hat rang bells. Caro Emerald is a Dutch singer and she really is a fabulous songsmith, singing jazz and swing in a style reminiscent of the era. Just look up: "A Night Like This."

It was over the Christmas period, when I was looking through the repeats that TV companies put out, to see if there was anything worth a second look that I came across this. I knew that Caro's hat rang bells.

There was a worthwhile repeat too. I watched, for the zillionth time, Noel Coward's, Brief Encounter, I love it.

This has to be a movie still. Anyone recognize the movie or the actor?

I didn't recognize the actor, but the scene reminded me of a shootout in the woods I saw in the theater quite awhile back. Old timey Civil War stuff I thought... I remembered Jude Law and Renee Zellwegger were in the movie and searched for them and then found the movie. Was surprised to see the pic actually is of Jude Law. I thought it was another actor from the movie.

Yes, indeed, it is Jude Law in Cold Mountain. Good eye, Tukwila. My favorite character was feisty Ruby, played by Renee Zellwegger with a reasonably decent Appalachian accent:

I figured it was okay to post this here, since she is wearing a hat... ;)

Thanks Doug! I only saw Cold Mountain once, at the theaters when it first came out. As I remember, my favorite character was played by James Gammon, now deceased.

Is that Renee I, II, or now III?

:D Honestly, I have no idea. I generally don't keep up with celebrities, and haven't watched much TV except for the news in the last 15 years or more (and am about to give up on the news, too). Cold Mountain could very well be the last movie I saw in the theater, but I'm not positive about that. As Jeannie Kendall sang, "Thank God for the radio!".

I do appreciate many of James Gammon's roles, too.

Gammon has since passed away. The last movie I remember him in was Appaloosa (also with Renee). He was a great Western character actor.

I don't know either other than I saw a preview of a new movie she is in & it appeared that she has had plastic surgery to change her looks yet once again.

That's Jude Law from the movie, "Cold Mountain", a Civil War era love story with Nicole Kidman. In that picture from the movie scene Jude Law is about to gun down a Southern "Home Guard" villain. It was good movie and worth a watch.
I saw it only once when it first came out. What I remember most about it, & probably why I only saw it once was most of the plot centered around the relationship between the characters of Nicole Kidman & Renee Zellweger while the men were off at war. Only James Gammon's character remained home due to his age.

My biggest memory of the movie was when Union soldiers dug a trench under the Confederate camp and filled it with explosives and blew it up leaving a big crater that they charged into and became targets for the Confederate soldiers shooting down on them. That scene was based on an actual event in the Civil War when Union General Ambrose Burnside ordered his troops to charge the Confederates and they became trapped in the crater that was left by the explosion.
