Elliott's is a lot like my Jaxonbilt....Sam Elliott as Tell Sackett
Tom Selleck as Orrin Sackett
The hat is similar to a hat John Wayne wore in some of his movies
Dig that cinematography!"Detour"
(1945). The movie has been digitally enhanced & remastered. You can watch it on YouTube.
+1Dig that cinematography!
"Detour"
We sometimes make a joke of saying, "What hat?" But that joke is sometimes true. The intensity of expression on Ann Savage's face makes it impossible to look anywhere else.
+1That is a wiiide brim!
Aaand . . . you win the Ellery Queen Master Detective Award for 2016. I noticed none of those things, darnit! The hand business might be explainable, but not the hat bow and the door printing.I just noticed that this photo is flipped. Bow on wrong side, MacMurray and Robinson using their left hands for the phone and pipe, and the lettering on the door is readable (it should be reversed for the folks outside the office).

I can see why one would think the Maltese Falcon hat was a C-crown

I personally think they are the same hat or very similar...and I think Penman Hats nails it with their 'Casablanca' hat...check it out....

This would also work beatifully for the hat Dana Andrews wore in Laura and a half dozen other films...: View attachment 46801

What do you think? I think it works for the Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, and Laura Hats...It would just be left to the appropriate hand bashing....
