Indiana Jones is a biggy. Loved that hat from the time I first saw the movie...

For other hats...

A lot of people like bogie's maltese falcon hat, but I'm more partial to the Casablanca one...just looks more stylish to my eyes.

I've never seen road to perdition, but seeing those pics, provided, I really love Hanks' hat. It just screams style.

I would like to know if anyone has any experience with Dave Brown hats?

My uncle bought a hat from him and gave rave reviews. I've seen the hats myself and think the materials look superb. He also did a little minor repair work on my Adventurebilt (one of the threads holding the bow in place had broken) and charged me nothing for it. I've heard some people on here complain that they had trouble when dealing with him. From that I gather that he probably hasn't made the best transition to email and the internet, so it might be best to call him on the phone or (even better) go there in person. -Mulceber

Tom Selleck in "Lassiter" (apparently there are no pics of him in this hat on the internet...least that I could find...)

My dad and granddad, consummate hat-wearers, probably had more influence on me than anyone, but film and TV certainly played a part, too.

Most of of the hat-wearing actors that influenced me have already been mentioned--Bogart, Sinatra, Connery, Eastwood, et al. The following were not necessarily influencial on me personally, but I'm sure they must have affected many others and are conspicuous by their absence:

Paul Hogan's Akubra in the series of films and in the Outback Steakhouse TV commercials.

Hoss' open-crown ten-gallon cowboy hat on Bonanza.

Peter Falk's fedora in his role as Columbo.

The pimp hats in all the Blaxploitation movies of the 1970s.

Among those that did influnce me but not yet mentioned:

Odd Job's deadly lid in the Bond flick Goldfinger. Anybody know where I can get one of THOSE?

The "safari" films like the 1930s Tarzan movies with Johnny Weismuller, the Jungle Jim and Stewart Granger films, a flick about catching wild African game with John Wayne and Red Buttons. I was just a kid when I saw these films and have now forgotten, but would appreciate folks here who might remember the names of any of them. I'd love to rent and watch them again.

Finally, the TV series Daktari from the late 60s or early 70s--some great safari-style hats there. The only character's name from that show I can remember is Cheetah, the chimpanzee. What does that say about me?

Like you NonEntity, it was really my grand dad that inspired me to wear a fedora.

Later on everyone from Elliot Ness to Indiana Jones kept me interested.

Definitely Bogart, clint eastwood, Gagney, Robert Mitchum and has anybody thought of Fed McMurray we all know him from the TV series that he made in the 1960's but he had made some great movies duing the 1930's & 40's I've just seen a few of his movies lately from the 1940's and he wears some great fedoras and panama hats and they look great on him.

The Frank Capra film, Mr. Smith goes to Washington.
Check out the hats on the press guys and the wasington politicos working for the Senator when Smith shows up in Washington for the first time.

The clothes in the movie are fantastic in general.

A hat with character

I guess the "Gus" hat worn by Duvall in Lonesome Dove is a fav of mine. He wore with class and was a man of justice and empathy. It is high on my wish list. Where do I find a good one at a reasonable price?

Awesome! Thanks for the movie references, I love gangster movies. I've seen Miller's Crossing, a great movie that got little notice for some reason, but I haven't seen the others. I added them to my que at Blockbuster By Mail.
