Here's a couple of nice Westerns from the 1974 movie, "Dillinger", with Warren Oates in the leading role...check out the wide brim Joao!

Here's one for bowlerman, this is an Iron Worker wearing a Bowler / Derby from a 1931 movie I watched yesterday...

Not many girlies in this thread so I thought I'd put in a word for a few movie hats that would have inspired me had I been of the female persuasion.

First is the stunning hat worn by the smouldering Jane March in 'The Lover' (L'amant)

The second is a rather nifty paprika coloured riding hat worn by Grete Scacchi in 'White Mischief' unfortunately we only get to see it for a few seconds at the begining of the movie.

And then of course there are the hats worn by Meryl streep in 'Out Of Africa' ...... she wore a different hat in every scene, although all worth a mention, there are just too many, but this beauty did make several appearences & it just goes to show that you can look elegant with a telescope crown in popped up mode.

This guy on the left has one of the best hats of all time, in 1935, long before Indian Jones. The movie was "Oil Lamps for China."

For that matter, both hats are excellent.

In terms of film making yes but not so far out in terms of period setting :D

The movie was "Oil Lamps for China."

It was actually called ' Oil For The Lamps Of China ' but I'm just being pedantic in case someone wishes to find the movie online.....it certainly looks like it's worth a watch.

I have to agree that is a cool hat & certainly something I would gladly wear.........................& as Rogera stated, the jacket ain't bad either. :)

My point was that some may think fedoras like this only began with Indy, but as we can see, Indy was copying them, not the other way around. :D Except for the dimensional brim, of course.

I totally agree Mr. Blackthorn, I was just being facetious :D

The Indy films were just a mish mash of those wonderful B movie adventure films from the 30's onwards. Even Indy's garb was more or less modelled on Heston's gear from 'The Secret Of The Incas' so really there isn't anything original about the Indiana Jones saga except prehaps mixing a bit of super natural into the scenarios but I expect it's been done before.

Speaking of Viggo, he wore a very inspiring hat, awe inspiring that is, in the little known movie ' Alatriste '
Must have taken a lorry load of shellac to keep that baby from flopping......
