One of my all-time favorite movies, and hats. James Cagney as scary gangster Cody Jarrett, in White Heat:

I have a black Manhattan fedora, high-crowned with a 2 3/8" brim, that would make a good starting point to reproduce this hat. A narrower ribbon and a re-bash to a teardrop, and I'd be off to the races. . . .

Well said, Dan, very true. I DVR a lot of movies while I'm at work or asleep, if the setting is the 30's or 40's, even if the plot doesn't necessarily interest me, just to see the hats.
