jwalls, I really like your tag line. :eusa_clap

"A gentleman should never leave the house without a sharp knife, a good watch, and great hat."

Looking back it would seem I have been working towards this goal for many years.

The line is not really mine. My great grandfather said it to me on my sixteenth birthday. As you can see that was a long time ago.

Jason Patric in 'The Alamo'

I love this hat. The closest thing I've been able to find to it is the 'Stetson Austral', but Patric's is a little flatter and has a wider ribbon:

I really like the plantation hat worn by the guy playing William Travis in the John Wayne version of the Alamo. I like short crowns and wide brims.

No one wore hats better – or wore better hats – than George Raft.

My Dad took me to see that movie on the big screen - Travis' hat was definitely my favorite - thanks for the reminder!

I've dug the hat worn by the character Don Massimo Fanucci in "Godfather II" ever since the movie first came out. The character is a real POS, and a complete and utter fop, but that hat of his is certainly distinctive (as is all his flamboyant attire, for that matter).

I ran a search on the thread and came up blank for "Brazil". I figured someone would have mentioned it, but I guess not.

Danny Kaye always dressed great in the olden days ... classy clothes ... there are some nice outfits in White Christmas ... and Bing has some good hats, though not as good as the actor wore in real life

The beginning of Fighting Seabees with John Wayne has some shots of exceptional fedoras ... the real stuff

The rest of the movie is mostly pith helmets, but the opening minutes shows some nice old hats

Also the Michael Shane detective movies with Lloyn Nolan have some good hats to be seen

The great thing is, with DVDs you can stop them and zoom in ... get a real good look

Man ... what hats Hollywood had!:eusa_clap
