Was due to visit Duxford air-show with my Father-in Law & he suggested a 'Squadron -Leader' type tache contest. I won and have maintained it since..goes with my 'vintage' style...

I'm not a fan of the "Boston Blackie kind" either.

I think it suits you, wearing a moustache is your choice and don’t let the naysayers put you of, the worst stage for me was the dodgy seventies adult film star look but it’s now doing ok

I sometimes heavily wax the end and go full on English but I’m off today so natural it is.

Grooming is quite important, I shave every day and then rub an alum block over and use post shave balm, the ‘tache is washed in beard shampoo, oiled, balmed and waxed if needed.

I use Captain Fawcetts products but others are available.

@busmatt - That is indeed a fine looking moustache. I would love to end up wit your results.

Thank you, of course the style you choose is up to you but personally I think your current style suits you very well, there’s not many people that can wear a pencil moustache well but you seem to be one, Terry Thomas and Leslie Phillips could so you’re in good company there,

The worse stage for me is every time i get a cold. I love a mustache but it’s just plain gross when you have a cold.
I applaud your diligence, @busmatt, in maintenance, your daily multistage prep for the day’s wear, as well as your obvious appreciation for the fundamentals of mustache characterizations.
But what i really want to know is when one has a cold and a coiffed and prepped mustache, how do you keep from blowing nasal exudate all over it? It seems the longer and more elaborate the worse.
Do you have to wash and re-prep after each occurrence? Does the oil and wax somehow prevent the bacteria-laden secretions from contaminating or discoloring our lip wear?
Personally, i can’t wash fast enough and inevitable repeat the process for days on end, typically.
Like i said it’s gross and i just want to shave it off each cold.
Thanks
B

Don’t get a cold, easier said than done but I don’t find it a problem, you just have to find a way of blowing your nose so as to avoid contamination.

I'm with the pro side all the way and wouldn't change it a bit. It definitely gives you a 1930's Ricardo Romantico sort of mystique: women seem to go for this style much more than the Yosemite Sam look. If you're still in doubt, you might want to ask a stylish, attractive lady what she thinks: could be a great conversation piece.

Moustaches are kind of like hats. When you try it for the first time, the wearer can (not always) feel self-conscious and uncomfortable in them.

But basically, you have to like what's on your face. Perhaps experiment with different lengths. I like mine grown down just over the top of my upper lip, but my hair is curly, and some of the moustache hairs can poke me if they are too long. So I usually trim it back to that the hair is just at, and not over, the top of my upper lip.

I don't groom it much different than I do the rest of my facial or head hair, although I do wash it after every time I eat. Normal daily grooming is wash with body wash, and rinse. Pat dry.

A short moustache, such as the OP's, should require even less care than that. You just have to decide if you want to keep it or not. Do you like it? That's all that matters (unless you're married ;) ).

I have not been without a moustache for 30 years. It has changed a few times in how far down toward my chin it goes, but the basic moustache has remained unchanged. I have muttered around about shaving it off a few times, but my wife and kids object. In the words of my oldest son, "no dad, it would be too weird". :D
Grow what you like.

Do any of you guys use any beard moisturizers or balms in winter? I have never used any products like this but lately, my beard started itching, I also noticed some dandruff on my chin. This happens every winter, but this time it gets even worse. I'm currently reading this page about moisturizers, which one should I get first? A balm or conditioner? Thanks.

I think it suits you very well. Honestly, I'm not sure a big bushy mustache would suit you nearly as well. I agree with everyone else, though. You do you and if you like it and you're comfortable with it, that's what matters.

Hello Everyone,

I would like your opinions on moustaches. Presently I am teaching English in Vietnam and any facial hair is considered odd by the masses. What do you think? View attachment 178116 View attachment 178117 View attachment 178118 View attachment 178119

You can experiment with balms and oils to find one you like. Also washing your beard with dandruff shampoo like you would your head will help with removing the flakes. I have never had dandruff or any other skin issues until this year. For some reason I suddenly developed a bit of psoriasis on my head. Besides the actual treatment for the psoriasis, using a t-sal shampoo completely stopped the flakes.

I use Captain Fawcett’s Beer’d shampoo for my ‘tache and have flakes no more, I also use his beard oil, balm and moustache wax

I think it’s doing the job
