I wonder if he's actually designing? Lots of their hats have less crown height and more taper then I like. They're also a bit pricey for my wallet. He says they've come up with a more classic felt texture and building Hats that are of vintage type quality .

He did. I'll have to start following him on instagram.I know . I've looked to see what's available . If I know Matt (Just from what I seen), he'll be trying to get more crown and straighter block crowns , too . I saw two or three Hats on instagram that looked nice . The closest I've seen on their site is the Poet , but I think they're doing more , and in Beaver . He did some great things at Stetson .
If I remember correctly, he has since given that hat to a friend. Lucky fellow in my opinion, as I really liked the character that hat attained through Nathaniel's travels. I do know he got an Akubra Fed IV in Tawny Fawn to replace it and had some initial complaints about it being too warm for the Asian climate, but he has recently posted photos of himself wearing it in the Himalayan foothills in the Fedoras Afield thread so I assume he has sorted out that issue.@Nathaniel Finley Thats working with what you have available ! Good Job ! Its incredible what well worn good felt will do .
you did a damn good job brother.First post here.... just received my Campdraft Deluxe from hatsdirect yesterday. This is my first serious hat (I’ve got scores of hats but all knockabouts) and this is my first time bashing an open crown. I tried the cattleman initially but the hat seemed to want a diamond!
It’s not perfect but I’m happy. I watched most of the videos in this thread...thanks so much... this is an extremely helpful thread.

Thank-you, and thanks again for this thread. I’ve since tightened up the pinch a bit.... and would like the brim to flatten out a bit. Any advice how best to?
once you alter the brim there is kind of no going back unless you seek a professional re flange... that is simply a disclaimer
... and even after the re flange it is very possible that the hat will never be the same.
I've had some luck with an iron but it never lasts very long and slowly the hat will try to return to its original shape and become wavy and quite unsavory ... especially these Akubra hats since they are not very good quality felt.
The brim will be wonderful until you wear the hat in the rain then it will get all wonky.
I personally don't recommend messing around with the flange of a brim too much unless you have access to equipment or a hatter with equipment.
