My my, one of my favourite games which I believe is from the 1930s is leaving the golden age and going all 21st Century.

No longer will I have the pleasure of waving £1000's to the poor people sitting the opposite me around the board.

I'm with you on that one! That's part of the whole point of monopoly, not that there's all that much to the game, but the "ritual".

They had somewhat of an explosion of parlor/board games in the golden era especially the 30s, I researched it when I was seeking ideas for for throwing golden era (indoors) parties & made a whole list. (Don't have on my work computer; a couple others I remember were scrabble (created in 1938) and clue (1948)).

Getting rid of the Monopoly money, that's no fun :p

My youngest niece and I used to spend many rainy afternoons playing Monopoly on my living room floor, using my original 1935-vintage set, complete with the card that declared "We're Off The Gold Standard! Collect $100!" A history lesson, as well as a lot of fun for her.

A couple years back, when that reissued original version of the game came out, I gave my niece a set for Christmas -- much to the annoyance of her dad, who she beats constantly thanks to the secret tips I taught her!
