Bon Amie has a lower abrasive level than Comet or Ajax Cleanser (stronger than dirt) so it allows you to go with something to handle thngs when a really abrasive one will damage what you're working on.

Also in the Don Knotts film "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" there is a discussion of the blod stained organ keys, that the stains won't come out. At that point one of the elderly ladies shouts out to confirm the problem with the stains: "And they even tried Bone Ammy!"

Cheerwine.....have never had it, but the name touches my heart. So hopeful!

I like the bottle's odd ridges and contours, too.

I believe it's a Southern thing. I've had it, and it's one of my favorite drinks, tastes sort of like cherry Coke, but with a lot more cherry than Coke. It's made with cane sugar too, so it's not just a vintage styled bottle, it's a vintage styled product.

It's great stuff. In fact, I've got a four pack in the refrigerator right now! Been around since 1917, according to the bottle.

Sounds like just a handful of Southern states sell it, which makes it even more special. Never saw it in New Orleans when I was growing up.

I've read that it's reminiscent of Dr. Pepper, and as a fan of Dr. P., I'm sure I'd love Cheerwine. And hooray for no corn syrup! Is Cheerwine priced like regular soft drinks?

Great site, Bruce. Thanks! Who knew there were so many great-looking soda labels still around? A few that caught my eye:

(And Cheerwine is on sale!)

Well, I buy it in Texas, and I bought one in South Carolina when I was on vacation last year, so I know they at least sell it in those two states, and I'd imagine that it spreads out some. I buy it at Cracker Barrel's country store.

Of course, they make Dr. Pepper with cane sugar, too. And come to think of it, that has vintage style packaging, too. I don't know if that was mentioned here before.

Rats. I spent three months in Charleston a few years back. This was before Cheerwine entered my consciousness, or I'd have looked for it.

I've unearthed two restaurants in NYC that serve Cheerwine floats. If I ask nicely, maybe they'll sell me a bottle.

Does anyone know why that is? Bevvies in glass always seem to taste better to me too. I always assumed it was psychological, for the same reason that I dislike drinking out of plastic glasses/cups.

Actually, I was reading in the news here in Japan just a couple of weeks ago that PET plastic soda bottles/mineral water bottles leech harmful chemicals into the beverage, and the government is considering taking action.

Those of us skating roller derby probably knows this packaging very well for Gumball toe stops:

I just noticed, that guy on that package is the same as the guy in my avatar! Probably because I took him from a 1930's clip art book.

These bottles look pretty vintage styled to me.

Attaboy, Luther! Only the best American film ever.

While searching for the Bon Ami quote, I found some Henry Darger-type made a video of his 「The Ghost And Mr Chicken」diorama.

Spooky.

Fading Fast I don't know for sure if they have those particular Hershey's products, but maybe a quick check of the front maze of crap at your local Cracker Barrel restaurant would turn some up. They always seem to have a good stock of candy in vintage packaging. It's usually down eye-level to the kids.

Will do - thank you. There's also a very big candy store about ten blocks from where I live that gets all sorts of brands and the odd iterations of the well-known brands that I think I'll stroll down to this week.

I had a Fisher Price farm set just like that when I was a kid, with the silo and everything! It was already very old when I got it, as the white fences were quite yellow. It was a hand me down from my older sister and much older cousins. Spent lots of happy hours playing with it. So did our cat, who liked to take the animals away & hide them!

Packaging that looks vintage to me:
Krispy Kreme donuts
White Lily & Gold Medal flour
The Ivory soap sold at Dollar Tree
Campbell's soup
Almond Roca candy
Twinings loose leaf tea in the tins

Where'd you see that? That'd be awesome. I always get sick of the abundance of plastic bottles when I'm in Japan? What are they thinking of doing?
