This is fascinating. What an effort. Several Mustangs from my grandfather's unit were sold post war to Sweden, Switzerland, and Italy. This plane flew with the Swedish AF and has been restored with its WW2 markings on the left side and Swedish markings (mostly) on the right:

I have a pic of that Mustang parked next to my grandfather's P-51 in Germany post war. Sadly, my grandfather's went to the Swiss and in '54 a pilot was killed in a crash.

Anyway, keep us updated. Are you restoring it to airworthy status or static display status?

Hi Jabos,
This lady will never fly again I'm afraid. As you can see from the early photos in this thread, she was pretty badly pranged after the crash. The plan is for her to be restored to static condition and then dispalyed at her former home base at the 21st Wing in Lulea.

Cheers,
/F

Mike, the Mustang is looking bloody brilliant, good job :eusa_clap

But now, how's that slightly smaller model of K5054 that you've got going coming along eh? ;)

Thank you Sir.

Blast that good memory of yours! :) I'm afraid the K5054 has been put on the back burner for the time being. Other things caught my attention and I've devoted most of the last year to smoking pipes and pipe carving.

Cheers mate,
/F

It's good to see you round here Mike, you've been a bit thin on the ground old boy :D

Post some pics of the pipes, I (and I am sure others) would love to see them.

But get that K5054 finished eh, I didn't send you all that stuff for nothing you know......only ragging you mate :D

Seriously, that Mustang is looking spectacular, not too long now!

*LOL* Yeah, I'm sorry about going AWOL. Sometimes it's good to take a step back and just watch the river flow.

I WILL get the Spitfire done eventually. Modelling has always had it's peaks and valleys for me. Winter is usually the time when it peaks.

I've already posted a picture of some of my pipes in the "Show us your pipes"-thread.... they are the ones called "Flieger". ;)
