Mister Freedom Denim Peacoat

Oh well. Why do we bother to post on forums about this stuff if it is really all the same. [huh]

Mister Freedom and workwear blogs are symbiotic. They write about his products just like the vintage stuff they found on and offline. Part of the appeal is that this things are rare and someone does rave about them... which does produce some cravings in the readership. It works for them.

We are going in circles, mate. I post on here because I buy certain clothes, and enjoy chatting about them. Symbiosis doesn't enter in to it.

As I said, there are true artisans like John Chapman, who makes a very specialist line of clothing. Does he make them difficult to buy? No he doesn't. Getting a jacket from him might take time, but it is a very simple affair to order one. There is certainly no mystery to it.

But the denim "artisans" we have been discussing somehow feel the need to hide behind "smoke & mirrors" to convince their acolytes of their "exclusivity".

Not all are like this. Rising Sun, as I mentioned, are just as "artisan" as the rest, but manage to engage in regular commerce without feelings of guilt.

MF, however, are simply another high-price designer, such as say, Armani, but rather than admitting they are simply high-priced, they posture some kind of fake "street cred".

As a buyer of vintage denim for over 40 years, this current fad would be comical to me, if it wasn't so contrived.

Yeah, I can recommend the 50's fit.

MF does a full page write up of every item he produces! And all you have to do is send them an email! Or buy from one of the many webshops that carry his wears!

That's right, the supposedly snobby Mister Freedom has had numerous goods available through JCrew - and these aren't "made for JCrew" items that wouldn't be sold at Mister Freedom. They're the same items sold in the shop. The coat was originally priced at $600 and was part of the 2009 line. Apparently, JCrew found a box of these in one of their warehouses in February of this year. The coats were up for one day for $300, and were then reduced to $200 the following day. They were all gone in three days. Unobtainium goes for $200 with free shipping from JCrew.

Further, Mister Freedom has worked with the Gap 3 years ago. I picked up a couple of these for $10 each from the Gap.

There's nothing difficult about obtaining any of the items discussed in this thread. Mister Freedom employees are friendly and will send you photos of anything you'd like to see and inform you of what they have available. Roy makes his jeans entirely himself, so if you don't want them, don't buy them - but they're easy enough to find, until they're sold out. Rakuten is easy to use, especially if you're ordering from someone like John Lofgren. There's no mystery here. There are just products that can either be purchased or not purchased. Hostility toward the products or their manufacturers/retailers seems a bit odd.

I don't have the jeans, but the MF denim in the peacoat and signal vest are both Sugar Cane denim (50 cotton/50 sugar cane). I'm far from a denim expert, but it's pretty great stuff: stiff at first, then really soft, slubby, and full of color variation.

Not sure if they're the same denim as the peacoat Sloan. I didn't like the stars at first, but I once saw someone wearing them, and they actually looked really good.

You've attacked the manufacturers, attacked the retailers, attacked the products, and now you're attacking the consumers (the members of a site of which you are a member)? You seem to really enjoy participating in discussions about items that you want, but can't or won't obtain and, therefore, form a cloud of hatred encircling everything about them.

I wasn't talking shit its really not that hard to just send an email for info! I also dont shop at Gap but if I were to buy from MF I wouldn't mind sending an email
