Mister Freedom: Campus in the Raw

Ok, thanks. I’m a 48 so I have to rule this jacket out.

I'm a 46" chest, with relatively broad shoulders, and I found that the Campus Jacket was a touch too small with just a thin t-shirt underneath. The salesman reckoned it might have stretched out a bit.

If you look at the photo above, the shoulder seam on my right arm (the one holding the phone) is sitting slightly in from the edge. I could do with another size up.

It's a shame because Mr Porter had the Statesman Jacket on sale a few weeks back, and I was very tempted. (If I'd seen it at the final £299 price, I'd have grabbed it in any case.)

Still, it's not the end of the world. I need to chase up John Chapman for my much delayed (and verging on MIA) order. I'm tempted by the Security Aviation Togs Cossack, but with handwarmer pockets.

That’s a great look (and smirk). That jacket is just getting started. And the moto guzzi is something I’ve always wanted in the garage next to my Ducati Monster.

Awesome bikes. My friend had an extremely hideous orange Le Mans... V1000 something, can't remember atm, one with the huge rectangular headlight and while I pretty much fell in love with every motorcycle I sat on, that Moto Guzzi was the only one that really stuck with me. That thing was something else though I can't say why.

Because it is unlined, the weight is light, but the thickness of the leather sufficiently allows it a feel of substance. It is a very toss-able jacket, one that can go with you anywhere while staying out of your way. And eventually, as patina builds, it will require less of your attention. These are, to me, the elements that makes it a “companion jacket.”

Happily thrown aside at the office:

This is exactly what I want out of this entire jacket business... Perfect!

Man in that office photo you can really see how it's darkend several shades from new! That's surprisingly quick! In a year I can't imagine it will even be recognizable from new. From essentially white to honey brown.
