Missing Loungers Whom You Miss.

Well, the idiots I work for keep trying to drive me into "strangle some fool" territory, and I may have just lost a highly-valued friend over a boundary-breach, but other than that... the big reason I don't post as much anymore aside from being busy and the atmosphere change over the years is that outside of the WWII section, I really don't have a lot to contribute, and a lot of my best posts over the years are now in threads only visible to Mods (like my Forensic Psych workups on 007 and Jason Bourne). Unless, that is, somebody here is an expert on WWII carrier aircraft-loads that can help me refine my Clue-Battery against the bloody morons... to riff on a Hirohito theme when he announced the surrender, my job could be described as "suffer the unsufferable, endure the unendurable, and educate the ineducable."

Other than that, not too bad up here.

I was alerted by Miss1929 through facebook that someone had mentioned my name here, as well as by jamespowers. I am poking my nose here for only a single moment to say why I have not been on the Lounge lately.

The rudeness that I have encountered on the Tipping Thread from persons whose names I shall not mention here was too severe for me to return to the Lounge.

I am pretty old-school, and I take politeness seriously. It is a matter of principle to me. I will not tolerate impoliteness by persons who have absolutely no right to speak to me that way -- and who would never in a million years speak to me like that in person. I cannot tolerate people who use the internet to hide behind, and who become thusly emboldened to say things that they would most certainly (and correctly) be afraid to say to my face.

That is all there is to say. I no longer have subscriptions to any thread on the Lounge, including this one. Anyone who has a burning urge to contact me can reach me through jamespowers or Miss1929.

If I were to receive an apology from the persons who were utterly nasty to me on the Tipping Thread, I would consider returning to the Lounge. If not, I will continue to get my vintage fix from Art Deco Society events and from Church of Sinatra events in SF, LA, and Portland. No one speaks rudely to me at those events.

Once again, this is a matter of principle to me.

well good golly Doran. I just saw this. I understand your position and I have since read the tipping thread but you are one of the most interesting people on here.
I for one would ask for you to please stay. Even though we dance to way different drums I enjoy your viewpoints.

Rudeness is not acceptable on the FL (where noone puts a bite on you and all) but the differences on here is what makes this joint this joint.

You have been here since 2007 and IMHO deserve a place at the table like everyone else. I am not here as much due to life.

lol Seriously, you were the rude one on that thread. "You people haven't traveled...."....."Anybody with an IQ over....":eusa_doh:

Your tragically flawed logic was challenge by several esteemed Loungers and rather than offer a mea culpa you threw a hissy fit and stomped off.

Have I misconstrued? [huh]

Vintage Betty

Vintage Betty done had a baby a while back and she's a little preoccupied with motherhood. I checked and she's popping in about once a month or so. But she has contributed some of the coolest threads and posts and ideas and stuff to the Lounge. Her greatest achievement may have been finding the identity of the mystery lady in the photograph a while back.
Hellloooooooo, Vintage Betty!

The medium seems to magnify things, doesn't it? :eusa_doh: In addition to that people seem to feel free to be their ugliest. Back during the approach to the 2004 elections things got very nasty on a PT Cruiser forum I was a member of. I'm not a violent guy, but there was one fellow whom if I were to have met him at a PT Cruiser cruise I might have hauled off and decked him.

I finally suggested to the owner of the forum that things were getting out of hand and certainly not within his guidelines and suggested he ban politics as a topic of discussion. Then I bailed for a while. Went back and found he had done just that, but there was a lot of muttering and snide comments for a while. I went back from time to time, but the fun was gone--I still had a bad taste in my mouth. I quit visiting for several years, even though I'd found out that the nastiest of them had died.

That forum is now a shadow of it's former self. It used to be like this one, members posting constantly, questions asked and answered, inspiration given, friendships formed, growing daily. It's now a sub-forum of TurboDodge.com, and is only there out of the goodness of that forum's owner's heart. A lot was lost in the transition, though and new posts are rare.

Of course, the withering away of that forum probably had more to do with folks moving on to other cars and other issues than that bit of unpleasantness back in 2004 but I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't the only one to leave because of it.

Cheers,
Tom

dhermann1 I agree...I miss vintage betty. I like doing research but didn't have a clue on how to research the mystery lady. VB is so knowledgable about so many subjects. And I miss Doran too. I think sometimes a person just has to step away from a discussion that's getting too heated and fight the urge to go back and read future posts!

because we are now so close! And I am so happy about it. In fact, I am chatting with him in another browser window as I type this...

And aren't they a lovely couple?
