Gents, I had a little expense money tucked away (not enough for another Fawcett creation at this point) and was attracted by the look of the Queens Hat produced by Miller Hats. I know nothing about these folks. What is the word on these lids?

Thanks.

Miller's are ok for the money. Actually, they are made by Biltmore. Strictly dress hats, though. They don't do well in foul weather. Still, they get the job done - I used to be a major supporter of Miller Hats... until I was spoiled by Mr. Fawcett! :eusa_doh: If you want something better for rain and such, but in that style, I'd ask JPD to make one out of rabbit fur felt. The price isn't much more, but there is a few months wait.

Miller makes a great fedora. And they are really nice folks!
But if you would check out my hat here.

The three big problems with their hats are 1) the felt feels and looks a little on the cheap side, and is too stiff also, 2) the price - way too high for what you're getting, and 3) the sweatbands are made of plastic. Yes, I know they say it's leather - but it looks, feels, and wears like plastic.

In that price range, the smart money is on Akubra.

Better yet, save up for 6 months (which goes by all too quickly), and get an Optimo.

I have purchased several hats from Miller over the past couple of years and have always been very pleased with their service, price, and quality. I wear a hat every day, both in my professional work-day and after work hours. I would recommend a hat from Miller.

I agree with the big guy. I have two 351 Miller teardrops and two Miller Baldwins. These styles come in the President Ultra Finish Fur that I like very much. They have held up very well in foul weather. The Queens that you are thinking of is made with the Smooth Fur Felt I believe, and is of the lesser quality felt. I had another hat in the Smooth Fur Felt and believe me you do not want to stand out in the rain with it. It shrank so much it wouldn't even fit my pug;)

I like 'em, too. I own one (a Milan straw called the Emerson), and I've been very pleased with it. The weave is good, the hat is durable, and I thought the price was reasonable. They are good folks who provide good service.
