...cause I gotta say, they are very handsome with classic proportions and at what seems to be a reasonable price... here are a couple I am considering

And you know, the Milans look pretty sweet too,

in a variety of colors & crown & brim styles that I have not found anywhere else. I'm not shilling for 'em, honest!:D ... but I would love an informed opinion...so any members own one of these? Who makes them for Miller? I haven't seen anything similar... really

many thanks,

Rick

I've got one...

A black Milan with a 2 1/4" brim. It's a nice straw, though I don't think it's as good as most of the '50s and '60s straws I've got, mostly because the sweats are better back when. I'll see if I can add a pix or two after I get home.

Most of their straws are made by Biltmore in Canada and they make nice hats!
They are one of the few companies left that actualy use real Mian straw , not the plastic material that is seen around .

Many thanks to both of you gentlemen.

It is good to know that besdor, I was hoping someone knowledgeable such as you would chime in... I have an ANCIENT old LEE Milan with a ventilated sweat & fenestrated crown beneath the pugeree so that it can transmit the tropical breezes ... great material for summer wear.
And Snrbfshn, I would love to see one actually on someone’s head rather than just suspended in mid-air...

regards,

Rick

I may hate myself in the morning.. but....

....I just placed my order for the Logan. I have ordered from Miller before and they are great to work with.
I should recieve my hat sometime next week. I will be sure to let you know what I think.

Count me IN

I purchased an Arlington Milan Weave Straw a few weeks ago. I think it is a very nice lid, very similar to the ones I remember a lot of gentlemen wearing in the 50"s. It isnt close to the quality (?) of a Panama, but it is very cool and a very nice hat altogether. It is also very comfortable during warm weather since the air seems to flow thru nicely. Just my two bits. Biltmore seems to make a decent lid and I am very happy. My wife is not however.

Hey N-b those photos are a zillion times better than the ones on the Miller web site. They should hire you to do a layout

Ouch! That's gotta hurt. I've yet to be a wife-wearing person and have a hat at the same time...or, rather, well you know what I mean :p Anymore, though, I couldn't imagine being with a woman who questioned my choices in hats. And, yes, I've reckoned with the fact that the choosy man's life is not infrequently the lonesome man's life. It's also not infrequently the rich man's life, in that oh-so-NOT-monetary way.

And I've been eyeing Miller's straws for a while. Agreed they've got styles and colors you just can't find elsewhere. Judging from those with experience, they're worth the money too. Cool! Another place I'm sure to blow a wad soon. Though I should have my 60s stingy-brim hemp milan straw back from Art soon...and I'll post pics.

Miller Milan pix...

Here are the shots of my Miller Milan. But let me correct a coupla things. I said it was black. The label says brown. So, it's the blackest brown I've ever seen. Also, I denigrated the sweatband in the post above. Upon review, it's a good, thick sweat, the best I've got in a modern production hat. As you might be able to tell, I've not worn it out of the house since I acquired it.

Somebody wrote $325 in the price space, but I don't think so. Perhaps trying to drive the auction price up.

Heres my Miller Logan

I love it! I am now thinking of ordering the cocoa color, with maybe a 3/8s hat band [like on the Open Roads]

for everyone's info hats plus has biltmore dress straws for a few dollars less than Milller with comparable shipping rates. i've never dealt with them so i can't say anything about service which is defintely good with Miller. Also mike the hatter has good pricing with free shipping for orders over $75 wiyh good service. Milller does seem to have the largest selection.:eek:fftopic: how are bailey straws by comparison?

Howdy, Rick Blaine.

I own the "Dunmore." It's the cocoa straw with umber pugaree that you posted as the second pic in the thread opener...

I just brought it out for its third straw season and wore it for Memorial Day's gallivanting about. It's always been one of my faves due to the most unusual color and the fact that the tightly bound edge pulls the brim down severely in front on mine resulting in a look a little like Duane's "logo guy" on TheFedoraStore.com's banner?!

Tho "Miller" marked -- it's definitely a Biltmore and flying the maple leaf embossed on the sweatband... :p
