Mexican hats, turn of the last century

But...
From a hat stand point, it shows any number and
styles of kepis, pith helmets, sombreros, western
type, fedora type (sort of) derbies and more!

There are some nice and some extreme ones. I think 5" is the limit. More and you will end bumping into things and people.

Joao, I have seen one genuine old basic felt sombrero, and some high end decorated felt sombreros, (by the Frenchman whose name escapes me at present - real works of art) but most I've seen are modern era decorative hats & are made of cloth velour.

The genuine ones I've seen were very small sizes - 6 7/8 or even less.

I wonder if any of those historical sombreros have been
preserved and displayed in a Mexico City museum. I also
wonder what the origin of such sombreros gigantes was.
I don't recall ever seeing such hats worn by Spaniards.
Might they have originated with the indigenous folk?

The only mexican sombreros I have seen are made of straw with decorative things. I find them too big and with too much bling. The most bling I'm going is that hatband from my 30x beaver Stetson and I already find it a bit too much.

I'm thinking of traditional style felt sombreros. Jean Tardan is the fellow I had in mind. I'll look for photos.

Didn't know there was such a thing... hat. That would be a head turner and unpleasant to wear in public transportation.
Looks nice, but I prefer less brim and more crown.
And if it rains too much? Can it be used as a aquarium?

Seriously though, I imagine that this would have been quite a practical a hat for a caballero, and that there would have been plenty of space for it in the old southwestern country that now makes up part of the US.

Being a patriot and having already exceeded my monthly quota for posts that might draw fire - and notwithstanding my great love of history - I won't directly address the issue of which nation actually invaded the other.

Ah..., so we have finally found your limit, my friend ;-)

I think 5" is the limit. More becomes unpractical to me... unless it would only be used outside urban areas. Wind would also compromise the usability, it would became a flying saucer.
