I need an affordable version of these boots. The RRL version would bankrupt me.

At 124 GBP that's a good deal and a lovely boot.

Okay, here's some pics of my budget M&S boots at 50 GBP, which I think is a good deal! I've put some original vintage boot laces from the 40's onto them.

Remember, this thread is for EVERYONE, whatever their disposable income (it's not a contest), as sadly not all of us are fortunate enough to afford custom made boots or one's of great cost [huh] (especially in today's economic downturn).

So this is *trying* to cater for all budgets, and point members in a direction that suits them, if a pair of 'dress boots' is your sort of thing ;)

So share and enjoy! thanks Gents.

;)

Excellent imagery! This begs the question, where is the definable line between boots & shoes?

Anyone know if the bulbous cap toe is called a bulldog toe? I saw someone mention that once on ebay but never before or after.

Gone.
Yep, bulldog boots. I've got an explanation somewhere in a book, I think.
Edit: No, I don't. They're just called bulldog boots in there, square, high or bulbous toebox.

The definable line between boots and shoes is below the ankle I suppose(?)

I'm looking forward to seeing the Allen Edmonds Titanic dress boots! Hopefully updates will be posted soon since the initial post was from early in 2009.

Allen Edmonds dress boots for Fall 2010

Some details on Fall 2010 boot offerings from Allen Edmonds in a thread at AAAC:

...Just this week we gave our new balmoral boot its name - The Fifth Street. It is indeed the Fifth Avenue pattern on the #5 last and will available in brown, black and cordovan. It's a fantastic looking boot.

It has some great companions in a boot line-up for next year. We'll also have blucher boot that was worn by the cast in the movie TITANIC, a rugged leather take on a chelsea boot with the tasteful rubber sole of our Executive Collection shoes, and a pebble grain rubber soled chukka on a thicker but still classy rubber sole known as a Titan sole. Lots to like there...

Everyone - The Fifth Street boot will be more of an ankle height boot, not as far above the ankle as the one in Matt's picture. For that height, we'll have the Bayfield (Titanic movie) blucher boot. The pricing on the Fifth Street will be $325 in black and brown calfskin and $525 in shell cordovan. The Bayfield, with its greater amount of leather and pattern design, will be $350. We haven't planned to bring the Bayfield back in shell cordovan at this point.

Best wishes,
Paul

Now as a general rule my opinion is that all of the good boots of the world are way too overly priced, especially the work boot based ones, even though I am a big fan (own black cherry RW GT's) . However, I have to admit that if I had the extra money I'd own those black cap-toed RRL boots. I always knew that boot must exist somewhere. Thanks for posting them.
