For some reason the 'When did it become acceptable for men to wear shorts' thread has been closed.

Anyway, this might be of interest:

This was taken in the Ruhr area of Germany in 1946/47. I believe man in the shorts/tweed jacket/cravat outfit is an off duty British Army officer.

Great photo TT. I was inspired by some of the great old 1930s scans from Esquire someone posted here a couple of years back and bought some very vintage-looking shorts two summers ago to help me create an old school summer vacation look. As a bonus it turns out the ladies all love my legs! lol Anyway I love the look for summer leisure.

Interesting that he was a military man - I wonder in what theatre of war he fought? It would make logical sense, to my mind, that the sort of short trousers which were the British Army uniform approach to dealing with desert climates and the like (obviously prior to the development of the knowledge we now have about the ill-effects of sun exposure) during WW2 might be carried over into civilian life as hot weather wear. I like the cut of these (though obviously I'd have them tailored about two feet longer ;) ).

It does help to have good legs if you wear shorts, maybe that's why some Don't like them?;)

Could be. Not in my case, though, as anyone who has seen all the photos from my Rocky Horror drag days can attest. ;) I imagine if that's all it was, there'd be much more hostility towards kilts too. But let's not dig that over again... I suspect (and in large part, mea culpa,) that's what got the other thread closed, though as ever there may have been other posts that have since been removed that brought the kibosh down on it.

I gotta admit, Edward could give Cyd Charisse a run for her money in the gams department.

I did the Rocky Horror thing many years ago, all the blokes wanted to do Frankenfurter, the look on the other blokes faces when you turned up in the toilet stood next to them at the urinal and lifted your kilt was hilarious, as was the reflection in the mirror of my goateed face with lipstick and a wig...think the gremlin in drag wearing lipstick in the cinema scene!!!

lol Mate you rock! lol

It'll be shorts weather here in about two more months' time. I'm dreading the humidity though.
