Thank you for posting that, Drill Sergeant. On this Memorial Day, let us think of, and in our own ways, thank those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our Armed Forces.
Sorry mate, clash of cultures. I agreee with you entirely.
Just to put my earlier post in context, the phrase 'Lest we forget' plays a part in our Ode of Rememberance:
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget
The line 'Lest we forget' is repeated in response by those listening. In Australia, Canada and New Zealand (and often in the United Kingdom), the final line of the ode, "We will remember them", is repeated in response.
