or does it stand for:

Scientifically Produced Animal Matter

Synthetically Produced Artificial Meat

Some Parts Are Meat

Someone's Pigs Are Missing

Squirrels Possums And Mice

Hey, it's all protein.

I've eaten things a heckava lot worse than Spam.

For example: when in a Thai restaurant, do not order anything that has the vague term "seafood" in it's title unless you're feeling very adventurous! ;)

Cheers!

I just don't know why the hell someone makes advertisings for meat?! [huh] And they still do that (at least over here). As if there wouldn't be enough meat eating people around........... I don't get the point of it.

My wife grew up on SPAM.:( Once in a while, when I want to eat something she doesn't like, such as corned beef, she'll fry up SPAM and potatoes, and bake a can of biscuits:( :(

She's getting better, though!

Give your thanks to the Great Depression. Spiced Ham, potatoes and biscuits. The last two don't sound bad to me though I prefer regular bread and butter. But my mother has never allowed me to eat Spam and now I'm a (for the meantime) a vegetarian.

P.S. According to the official site, SPAM was named in a contest offered by the Hormel company. The winner got fifty dollars or so, but it stands for SPiced hAM.

Not really. But then I can be a rather adventurous person at times. ;) I once ate lunch in a Mexican village just across the Rio Grande river from Texas -- along one of the most Gawd forsaken stretches of border between our two countries -- and survived.

I just wasn't prepared for the small pickled octopus tentacles mixed in amongst the more "western oriented" varieties of seafood. Mind you, I enjoy squid, but this was the first time that the tentacles were part of the meal. Overall, the dish was quite tasty, except for the tentacles which added a rubbery texture. I will say this, my dinner partner wasn't interested in sharing it. I had it all to myself! :D

Cheers!

I've had little sweet soy glazed baby octopi very tasty. Sea cucumber is an aquired taste, though as it's one of the most abundant organisms in the sea we should start thinking about it, easily digested, it has a texture a bit like firm jello.

I saw a Japanese food programme once where the octopus sashimi was so fresh that the suckers stuck to the host's tongue. I think thats where thy got the iead of Klingon Gagh from :).

But back to the Golden Era, how many of you have had mutton recently? It would have been far more common than lamb. There is a correlation between the amount of wool worn and the availability of mutton. Ie nowadays less mutton is eaten hence less wool, and rarer and more expensive fine wool based clothing.

"Basically impossible to get it in this town. Noone stocks it. For some reason, people prefer lamb. I'm a mutton man, myself."

If you have a halal butcher nearby, you might be able to find it there. Same if you have a Latino carneceria. They can also be good sources for real lamb, (less than one year old). Much of what is sold as lamb in the US is actually hogget, (between 1 and 2 years old). Anything older than 2 years is mutton.

Funny how some peopl get taken aback by octupus, but no one bats an eye at calamari.

There was a video clip a few years ago of a fish being prepped for a Chinese family. Just so you know how fresh the fish is, its fried & served while still alive.Head & tail are wrapped in a towel while its quickly fried in a pan then dumped on a plate. As its served, th towels are removed & the gills, mouth & tail are all flapping.
And the family quickly digs in.

Spam is supposed to be "Shoulder Pork and hAM" = SPAM.

Pacific Islanders seem to love Spam, the Samoans and Hawiians all are Spam afficionadoes. There is a Spam roll done like a sushi roll and even BBQ'd Spam.

It's called SPAM MUSUBI.:) :)
