Nope, I don't believe in reincarnation. But if it turns out that I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure I was a devout, Orthodox jew in my previous life.

Maj.Nick, thanks for the compliment. My avatar is actually Jeremy Brett who played Sherlock Holmes ( If you already knew that, I'm sorry if I offended you ) Jeremy does have that Victorian look. Love that Homburg. Sherlock might be jealous of Fortinos collection:D

I thought that your avatar is actually a pic of you! lol

I'm another one who is unsure of the whole concept, but I desperately -want- to believe it can happen. I too also feel like I "am home", as PSG mentioned whenever I watched old movies/footage, read old books, listen to classic music, step into historic homes, etc. I always get a very powerful sense of belonging whenever I indulge in any of the aforementioned. Also, when randomly looking at old pictures of regular folk, I'll feel these unexplainable, but immensely close, powerful bond with certain people, and I feel positive I had to have known them sometime before. Maybe it's silly, but that's me! [huh] ;)

Years ago I bought a postcard with a photo of a Fifth Avenue double-decker bus, taken by Berenice Abbott in 1932. Just alighted from the bus and breaking into a lope was a young man in a white jacket and shoes and panama hat. On seeing him I immediately had the strange feeling that I was looking at myself.

Like many of you have said, it's FUN to maybe think it's for real, but I can't say I belive in it 100%. Here are some examples of why I think it might be a possibility for me:

-When I was very very young (maybe 4/5/6) I used to play with my mother's makeup, wigs, and discarded silky nighties and I'd unbeknowestly do myself up as a flapper. I'd tie a scarf around my wigged head and have the little flicks of hair on my cheeks. I'd also do my lips in a tiny beesting and I'd do very high, thin brows! My mom's sheath of a nightie would top the look off!

-Skip a few years to 9/10/11. I'd stay up late at night and try to find the OLDEST movie playing on TV. I remember we had an encyclopedia that had photos of Mary Pickford, Mae West, and Sarah Bernhardt in it. I was eerily attracted to these girls even though by then I was into punk/new wave stuff. I would frequently pen stories about old actresses.

-I became SERIOUSLY interested in the past in 1998. I'm not sure what did it, but it happened. I was never so interested in anything in my life! My appetite for movies and books was STRONG and still is 9 years later.

-This is the freaky reincarnation possiblity part: I was born in 1975. If I was born in 1904ish in my former life, I would have been a young woman in the 20s and 30s -- my favourite period. If died in 1975 (which would've been a normal life-span), that means I probably wasn't well throughout the early 1970s, which I consider my least favourite time period of the 20th Century. I also have a strong dislike for smoking (my allergies go CRAZY), so maybe that's what did me in!!!

Hey -- it's fun to think about!!! ;)

Weirdly, I have no affinity with the time period post 1945, and even, when I think about it, a bit before that. It's like sometime in the early 40s, I switched off.

I have never felt like I am in the right time and generally get on better with people much older than me, especially those who are veterans. I am great friends with a lady who is nearly 87. She is a real friend who I see weekly and we agree we are like two peas in a pod when it comes to temperment!

I have always thought that I was contemporary with my grandmother who was born December 1911. My grandfather died 1944 - I wonder if this has any relevance? He was a very young man of 31 and died of TB when my mother was 6 weeks old. My grandparents had only been married about seven years. I loved to look at photos with my Nana and hear about all the people in them when I was young and always wanted to go to the museum to see the exhibits on times past.

So, old soul? Maybe. Life is a mystery!

I absolutely, 100%, positively believe in reincarnation! There is not a doubt in my mind. I cannot believe that once we live this life, we are done.

I have this theory. You know people who aren't very...bright? You know...kind of thick, and not with it? This is one of their first few lives. Then there are the brighter people, quick as whip, overall intelligent? Those are the people who have been around quite few times.

I believe. All my life, I've had what I'll call "images" or "scenes" spontaneously pop into my head. They come from somehat different eras, but cluster around just a couple. One is the late 1800s to early 1900s. The more interesting one is the 1930s - 1940s. I was born in this life in the mid 1950s, but I clearly remember going to nightclubs in the big band era. One scene involves WWII, and let's just say I wasn't on the good guy's side. It involved a party, people in SS uniforms, and a somewhat uniquely decorated cake. I told my wife about it several years ago and we often kind of joke about it because she too, feels she lived during this time, but as an Jew in Italy. Not a plesant memory for her. Anyway, I have described the scene to her in great detail. Well, the other day, she was watching some WWII program on the History Channel. Suddenly, she screames 'Come here! Quick!" I didn't make it to the den in time to see what she did, but she told me that there, in old grainy balck and white footage, was the party scene, just as I described it.

Well, I'm of the belief that some of us have been here before and yes, some people are very old souls. I've been here before, many times. I don't want to get into a lot of discussion on this but Karma does work into it. Now, before y'all jump on THAT topic, let me just say, that not all people believe in Karma and Karmic debt and Karmic lessons.

My heart yearns for Ireland and Scotland. Druidic, (could be why I'm a pagan now), Ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt,(alot of interest there that I've never fully researched), Medieval (The Knights Templar and my affinity for large horses) and Victorian (why I would be much more comfortable in a corset and long dress) eras. I know that there is a portrait of the me then, somewhere in a dusty old shop. Turn of the last century and shot stints in the 40's. I love the old war birds. P40's, Corsairs and such.

Now, this might seem very disjointed to a few of you but it's what is inside. I've never felt a part of this world, always on the outside looking in. Quite sad and lonely really. But there is a lesson to learn this go around. And I'm learning it. I'm a sensative and I do pick up on people, places and things. I've hit the mark more times than not on where someone has been before. And I have met people from previous lives. My marriage was a Karmic debt that needed to be paid. It was my second chance to make it right for me. I stayed before and endured more saddness than I should have. This time, I did what was right for me and to amend what happened before. Lesson learned.

I really echo this, especially the last part.
I can also see some paralells that could hint at a prior life for myself. I have the greatest fondness and "connection" to the Belle Epoque & Edwardian eras. Since I was young, I've had such uncommon fancies as parasols, creaky early parlor music, barbershop quartets, grainy black & white documentary footage from those decades, and practicing elaborate coiffures, all of which were common in those eras(minus the footage, naturally). I too feel I would be most comfortable in a corset, and high-top boots, and a finely tailored walking suit. Another funny thing is my whole life I've had respiratory problems, many severe bouts of bronchitis primarily. I also experience times when I'll have been perfectly normal a second before, and all of a sudden I start gasping as if it's my dying breaths. A few years ago, I read up on the 1918 influenza epidemic, and the statistic that alot of deaths were also from bronchitis, and was startled by how much it affected me. Had I indeed had a past life, I would not rule out the possibility of having passed away at that time, as my interest generally wanes after this same period. It's certainly an intriguing thought.

And my dear, you are right on the money. Death experiences/injuries/trauma coming through into this life is not uncommon. The epidemic you speak of took so many too soon. Now is your chance to live again and experience all that you missed then. Be happy in living now.

This really is a pretty interesting topic. I am of the Bible believing group. (nod towards the Big Guy in the sky)
That being said, I don't believe in reincarnation, but like most of us I have a strong pull towards the past. I really wish I had been born back in the "day" but I wasn't, so I'll deal with it. There's plenty to be occupied with and plenty of life to be enjoyed right now. Yesteryears Sailors did their job and though wishing I had been there with them, I will do mine.:)

I am agnostic about reincarnation as I am about revealed religion. I simply have no way of knowing. In the absence of a comforting faith, I think my attitude toward the big question of life is best expressed by Pierre in Tolstoy's "War and Peace".

What is bad? What is good? What should one love and what hate? What does one live for? And what am I? What is life, and what is death? What power governs all?"

There was no answer to any of these questions, except one, and that not a logical answer and not at all a reply to them. The answer was: "You'll die and all will end. You'll die and know all, or cease asking."

I'll leave it open as a possibility. Funny though, when my daughter was 3 1/2-4 she used to bring up things and ask if I remembered them, when I'd tell her I didn't, she'd clarify that it was when she was the mommy and I was her baby...don't you remember?

Don't know about the whole reincarnation thing. In fact, I really don't even think I'd want to live back in the other times. I just get bored with today and need to take short visits in a time with different sights, values and realities.

Absolutely and totally believe in reincarnation. There is no other way...All our likes and dislikes, the unexplained meetings, pleasant or unplesant relations with family members, strange encounters, and a so many other things.... Hey, let's face it, one life is not enough :) 100 lifes are not enough for that matter, so many lessons to learn, so much suffering to go through, and so much happiness as well..... Come on, one life is just not enough. . My 2 cents. :D

I have no idea about reincarnation, but I don't really believe time is all that linear.

One explanation I have heard for ghosts that I really feel is completely plausible is that it is like two parallel time frames colliding. If an event, person or place has had an experience that was really traumatic or important, more energy from the other time is present and we can catch a glimpse of it. Does that make any sense? Hard to explain, but it makes perfect sense in my head.

Maybe it's not that we are reincarnated, but we got dropped off into the wrong timeline.

I don't believe I was reincarnated, but there is an intense loneliness that I feel when I listen to old jazz or think about how I would fit in so much more if I were alive in the 30's or 40's. There's nothing worse than wanting something that you can never, ever have.

That's why I hope that when I die I get to time travel. :)
