The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will bar the sale of two Oscars awarded to Hollywood Legend Mary Pickford. "America's first sweetheart" reigned supreme during the early years of movie making with a clean-cut demeanor

The Academy is making this out to be a respect thing, apparently, the .5 million dollar asking price cheapens the memory of Pickford, co founder of united artists, first set of hands and feet at grauman's, and participant in any number of seminal film ventures. The academy is, no doubt out of respect for her many contributions, offering $10.

The academy claims that pickford's heirs, three generations removed, are obliged to adhere to a contract the academy forced oscar winners to sign, lest they be ineligible to get an oscar (it's called duress, something about making or breaking a career).


According to an industry source "Pickford was a founder of the academy and helped approve the Oscar design."

"From the academy's point of view it's just unthinkable that Mary Pickford ... would ever consent to do anything that would ever cheapen it in the eyes of the public. . ."
