Marlowe nominated for "Chap of the Year"

Widebrim

I'll Lock Up
How disappointing to see anti "Johnny Foreigner" remarks being made on The Chap of the Year web-site page. Particularly insulting are the references to Edward being a "spiv," and affecting American, or "Yankee" sartorial characteristics!

At the time of this posting, Edward is only 26 votes behind the chap now in first place. If you haven't voted, it is imperative that you do so now. Support our fellow Lounger!

Ok, desperate times call for drastic measures! Here's the plan: Go to your nearest cyber/internet cafe, hopefully a large and busy one with 40-50 computers, and offer the various customers $1/£1/€1 to go to http://thechap.net and vote for Edward. Now, I will underwrite the expenses but PLEASE: Don't buy a single vote more than necessary. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for a landslide..........

Sorry Marlowe old bean, but I know Compton Basset from university - despite divided loyalties, I'm sure you'll understand the slight treachery against a lounger.

I'd add that some of the vitriole in the comments section towards Mr Basset is rather un called for

A nice theory, but wouldn't all those computers have the same IP address? I tried from 3 different computers at work yesterday and it would only let me vote from one, I assume due to the IP.

Quite all right; young Compton Bassett is a worthy opponent and wholly deserves also to be supported.

Indeed. Unfortunately there are those out there who have mistaken vulgar abuse for humour, missing the point of the exercise rather. Young Robert did quite understandably rise to the bait on an earlier occasion, which I think is why they are poking at him now. Sad, really, but the work of the stick-on moustache brigade has been apparent in all rounds so far. Best is to ignore them, I find, tempting as it is to do otherwise. I myself draw their vitriol for being non-English (or "of foreign extraction", as they like to put it), and looking "American". For some reason, the fedora seems especially to offend these fools. [huh]
