Howdy,

Spring hath sprung, and I'm in the market for a linen suit. It just so happens that M&S is offering linen jackets and trousers at a decent price. I was going to pick it up, but first I figured I'd find out what the wise folk at the FL thought about it.

The only thing I'm not keen on is that the tail is split (is that the correct terminology?). The lapels could be wider, but for the price it doesn't seem to bad. I'm partial to the darker colours - white wouldn't suit me at all.

Looks fine to me. As for the Tail split I prefer mine at the hips rather then the center. But that's just me, so I think its fine. The darker one will be a bit wormer in the sun bit it really depends what you feel comfortable in. But if you like it I say go for it. Cant beat the price. Just wondering, have you checked out "Next" at all? On-line they seem to have Linen suits with a waistcoat option. I really liked the store when I was over and am waiting for them to open a Canadian branch.... could happen..... West Edmonton Mall got a FCUK (French Connection United Kingdom) They could get a Next.....
For those of you who have no idea of what I am talking about http://www.next.co.uk/
Does anyone know of a good place in Western Canada to get a good Linen suit?
Johnny.

Hi,

For me, NEXT can be hit or miss. I really liked some of their casual stuff a few years back. I have a few really nice shirts - warm weather - that are classy looking for modern wear.

I was unaware that they are selling a linen suit - I'll have a look.

You're right about the colour affecting the temperature... however, I look washed out in light colours. White is bad, and beige is worse!

Ah, well - it doesn't rain that much. It is a lot rainer in Ireland!

Actually, I am thinking more about wearing during trips to warmer climates...

Sorry to mention them yet again, but I visited Rob at Rocacha yesterday to look at lightweight fabrics for a pair of summer trousers, and he has a selection of linens that he can make up into a suit. It would work out much more expensive than M&S, but it would also look much better. I didn't ask for prices for suits, but trousers (Hollywood waist, twin pleat, high rise) would be £155.00.

I almost went for linen trousers, but decided on a less expensive lightweight cream wool at £115.00. He also had lightweight gabardines (lighter than the wool I chose) which felt wonderfully soft, but would also work out to £155.00, plus the wool felt slightly flimsy compared to my wool. They'll be ready in about 3 weeks so I'll post pictures on the Modern "high waisted" trousers? thread.

Howdy,

I never picked up the M&S suit, it just didn't have the right "look".

I am going to pop-in to Rocacha in the very near future, as I've been unable to find anything vintage in my size.

Let us know how you get on. My sister is going to come with me when I pick up my trousers as she wants a pair of summer trews too. She had some of their trousers 20 years ago - which she says I bought for her as a birthday present, but I don't remember that - and she always loved the shape. They're also doing ladies trousers - flat front, side button fastening, wide leg - which sis liked the sound of.

I recently bought a Racing Green linen suit on eBay (GBP25 = 18 for postage down under) Top suit, relaxed cut, nice line and very sharp looking in the Italian manner. MY M&S (GBP25) has not arrived but is in a sand colour which suggests it is Irish Linen. The RG looked Italian linen. Keep youse all p[osted

The Marks and Sparks arrived and is okay but not patch on Racing Green for finish etc. It was made in Morocco. The linen does not look Chinese but.....
