I have a Minerva knitting book from the 30s that has a pattern for a knitted floor length evening gown in it. I can't even begin to imagine how time consuming that would be, especially because it's made from a fine gauge yarn.

The V&A has a knit petticoat from the 18th century in it's collection that has over 2,000 stitches around the bottom of it's hem in lace-weight yarn. It would take a lifetime for me to finish something like that.

I have found loads of patterns for hats on line, but trying to find vintage ones is a little more difficult. I've noticed some cloches in some of the fall fashion previews, but they are really never out of style.
