Great score! For those of us on the right coast, there's the Brimfield Antiques Shows (flea market), next one in September-absolutely huge, and hundreds of dealers in vintage clothing/hats. Google Brimfield.com for dates, I know it runs from a Tuesday-Sat. usually 1st/2nd wk in Sept.
Great hat, worth the trudge. Now you gotta get shoes to match...

That is a gorgeous hat

Really. And I understand completely that you decided your vow never to buy another hat--finished for good I think you said--had to go by the boards when you saw this. Really. You should not feel the least bit of gulit....not a bit...for having broken your pledge and decided to do this. It was completely the right thing. People make too much of pledges like that. Really. Of course, if you were feeling guilty....and couldn't get away from the feeling...well, I don't want to be complict....no.....but it turns out, I am a 7 1/2...which you are not...and one way to expiate the guilt over your wrong would be to sell to me at cost..ok, 10% over...25%, whatever....50%...is that the decent thing to do...ok, ok....the point is I want to help you...................

Well thanks for the offer MattC, but the thing I've noticed about money is that it all kinda looks the same. Whereas this hat doesn't look like any other gray one I've ever had. I have a thing for collecting the unusual and rare and this light gray with a touch of blue really sets this one off from the others I have. Not to mention the wider brim and high crown. So I think I'm going to hang onto it for a while, or until someone makes me an offer I can't refuse.

I'm with you there, fedoralover. If it were mine, I just plain wouldn't part with it, no matter what I was offered (unless, of course, the wolves were at the door). I'm guessing we'll never see another hat like that one, so it truly is irreplaceable at just about any price. Goodness, it's a beaut. And it's a Mallory and it has a Cav edge (or whatever Mallory called their version of it) and it's in good-as-new condition. Where you ever gonna find another one?

Man-o-Man that is a great hat. It goes to show there is always room for another beauty. Just think about how many more wonderful hats there are in some small town or shop waiting to be found at the right time by the right person. If I could only clone myself. Fedoralover, you certainly have a great eye. Congrats.

You nailed it, Douglas. I'd guess that within the Fedora Loungers' combined collections reside the finest known assemblage of vintage men's hats in the world. (Where else would they be?) And fedoralover's "new" Mallory is plainly among the best we'll ever see. For that one, a self-respecting guy has no choice but to fall off the wagon. It's akin to finding yourself otherwise alone in Vegas circa 1959, minding your own business, when Marilyn Monroe sashays by and settles herself into your lap.
I can't enthuse enough about it. It just f#@*in' gorgeous. Yeah, there are other great vintage lids yet to be discovered, but I challenge y'all to show me a finer one.
