I was lucky enough to recently fish this Mallory Dallas from the Bay -- still in unworn, open crown condition. Crown height is 5 1/2", brim width is 2 5/8", sewn-in liner. This is my first Mallory, and I have to say the Pliafelt is amazing -- a dense, lightweight felt that is just incredibly smooth to the touch.

And, after all this time, a mug shot...

Every time I swear off e-bay for good, someone posts a hat like this .... and even in my size!
I love the hat ... great find! :eusa_clap

I am ...

...speechless. I have always wanted one of these. Great find in that size! Dove grey w/ that fantastic apricot colored liner too... what attic has that one been hiding in, I wonder?
What a prize. Wow.
And typicaly characteristic of Jimmy's lids, a gorgeous sculpted bash.
all that & 'good on ya' too.

Green w/ envy,

RB

Rick --

You can well imagine my reaction as I opened the box and took out the Dallas! The felt on this hat is absolutely incredible -- "like buttah..." :)

I have found only one other Dallas actually posted here on the Lounge -- a beautiful lid owned by tonyb. Both hats have the Mallory "for Youthful Smartness" liner. Like Tony's lid, my lid had small remnants of a disintegrated cellophane layer over the top of the liner, which I cleaned out before taking photos. Tony's lid has a cloth size tag, whereas mine is paper. There are also some subtle differences in the script logo of "The Dallas." Don't know what all this means in terms of dating -- perhaps some Mallory aficionados could venture a guess.

As always, thanks for the kind words on the bash. The "sculpting" on this one was a bit difficult, in light of the relatively light weight and nature of the felt. Glad to know it came out OK!

Cheers,
JtL

The best part is that you're wearing a t-shirt with the hat. More people need to start doing this!

Thats a beauty, I've always found it difficult to bash an open crown vintage hat myself. Its like it will never be a virgin again...

Jimmy, you got one of the nice ones. I've had several older Mallorys over the years and they are very high quality. The ones to stay away from are the ones that say "Mallory by Stetson." They aren't in the same league. The ones with the "youthful smartness" ditty in the liner are fantastic.

Jimmy, that is one incredible find! :eusa_clap

Looks terrific on you, as well. It is an incredible feeling when you open a box and find something like that inside--like Christmas in August, as they say.

Enjoy!
Tom
