Having recently been on a mega shopping spree to some of my favourite vintage shops in London I started thinking how much I struggle with my make-up. I wish I could find one make-up brand that not only had great products but also just fitted with my personality and my love of vintage. MAC is ok but feels so mainstream...

What do you all think about this - have you found your one true make-up brand or are you always searching like me??

Well, it's on the expensive side, but there's Besame for vintage glamour. Pricey for us UK girls though. If you do a search you'll find a big thread and other info about Besame here. Also - welcome to the Lounge!

I use all different brands.

Cover Girl for eyeliner and eyebrow pencil
Maybelline for mascara
Revlon for lipstick and nailpolish

When it comes to eyeshadow I buy any colour that catches my fancy, regardless of brand.

I think I've found the colours and brands that suit me just fine. If you know how to apply them in a "vintage" way and use the right colours, the brand really doesn't matter.

Welcome to FL, I see this is your first post!

There are many, many threads on makeup here. Try using the search function to pull them up. Many girls like Besame for a vintage look/feel (http://www.besamecosmetics.com) but you'll spend an arm and a leg on their products. There is a thread entirely on Besame at http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=5330. There is also a thread called Vintage Makeup Favorites at http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=3198.

My advice to you is to pick and choose what you like from different brands. Not all brands do everything well (most girls will tell you that they like the Besame lipsticks and eyeshadows but hate the mascara). MAC lipsticks are popular here because of their great colors and staying power.

There is nothing wrong or "un-vintage" about using modern, mainstream makeup brands!

I have a modge podge of everything. Mascara from a few companies, currently my fav is from Jane. My favorite eyeshadow is actually a pot from a generic lil company that I cant recall, its from wal-mart from the 99cent section, but I love the coverage and the color. I am aways on the look out for blush and eyeliners though, I am not a fan of liquid liner and for some reason everytime I find a pencil I like the next time I go to get it its gone or they change the formula and its more of a waxxxy concoction...ick. I'm usually blush free anyway unless I am going out.

Thanks all - very helpful and interesting

I guess I should just get on with enjoying the experimentation of trying lots of things!

At least you have helped me narrow it down!

There are past threads here too on things like just red lipstick or just red nailpolish, with lots of posts of girls chiming in on which brands make their favorite traditional vintage colors. Here are some to get you started:

You will never find 100% of things in one single brand.

I cherry pick here and there from the best of every brand..... that's the way to go in my opinion.

I don't see the problem in choosing the best of different brands...in fact its fun! :)
