I did a search, but I may have missed it, so forgive me.

For those ladies who frequently have photo shoots and do their own make up, I need some tips please.
I have a shoot on Weds and I am not sure how much make up I am to put on. I've read that you deff put more on than normal, but other than that I am at a complete loss.
So basically I am starting to panic here lol. I still need a day off so that I can play with my hair and figure out what to do there! Need to get spanx (foundation wear) and figure out what to wear. But basically freakn about the make up!
Thanks

This is what tips a MAC makeupartist gave me for my amateur pinup shoot:

Lipstick has to be razorsharp, if not, it will show up on camera!

When using eyeliner, do the style you want, but layer it multiple times to make it 'deeper'.

shine shows, so make sure you have some blotting powder to touch up with during the shoot - you will get warm!

maybe use false eyelashes, I look like a dragqueen in mine, but they show up much less on camera, they just look like gorgeus lashes.

I was just going to make the point about matte make-up looking best in photos.

http://www.health-beauty-guide.com/wedding_make up.htm says :

13. Avoid glittery or dewy looks – these are not very receptive for photographs and you may come out looking greasy

15. Water based foundation looks most natural in photos

I once rowed with a make-up artist because I didn't want to wear false eyelashes but I'm glad he had his way in the end. They were the terribly cheap kind you'd normally only want to use for Halloween (or not at all!) but they looked good enough in the photo. I was dressed as a witch so I was wearing a ton of eye make-up anyway but nothing looked painted or childdish in the photos the way I feared.

I generally do my makeup the same as normal, but exaggerated. Heavier foundation, thicker eyeliner, false lashes as Darhling mentions. Extra blusher is a must too, you will feel clown like, but it won't look like that on camera!

just got back from yet another lovely trip to my local MAC, stayed for over an hour hanging out, doing makeup, seeing the new fall look (not supposed to say though..)

More tips regarding photoshoots!

Apparently 60% of what you have on, does NOT show up on camera, so slap on the paint!!

matte works best for certain looks, since anything with a tiny bit shimmer gets sparkly on camera when the flash catches the particles.

mosturize like hell, do a scrub the day before to smoothen skin, a regular coat of liquid foundation then LOTS of powder.

Remember to bring the powder down to your boobs, so everything looks even.

Powder your ears! they get red when you are warm, which you will probably get! :)

I take alot of professional photos, and the one thing I can't stress enough is the ingredients of your foundation/concealer. Titanium Dioxide is not your friend. Make sure that it is not one of the first or main ingredients. Ideally it should say "may contain" Titanium Dioxide. Also, avoid foundations and concealers with any SPF, because this means a high level of T.D. (T.D. is basically a sunscreen)

I have tried many different foundations, expensive and cheap. The one I have found that shoots the best is by Rimmel and it's called "Lasting Finish" The last two shoots I had I used it and my skin looks flawless in the pictures. Also it's a matte finish (which was mentioned above) and that's really important. It's long wearing too so it's also good for outdoor shoots where you're exposed to to elements.

Just like the beautiful Fleur, I do mine pretty much the same as my day to day. I do go a little bolder with lipstick and add the false eyelashes which is my night time look. Stay away from gloss or glitter if you are shooting digital - it's no good. I don't know why exactly, just what I've been told. I do remember reading a thread about this some time ago, so it's on the lounge somewhere.
Have fun and please post pics.

Another question I have (which is why I edited the title) is about tfcd photographers. I am using a tfcd photog, one of the last sets he is doing before he goes back to charging people. Any hooooo, do you tip a photographer? I have absolutely no clue here.
Thanks a bundle.

This goes for me too. I put on so much rouge (if I want it to show up) that I look like a porcelain doll with painted cheeks. On the pics I just look rosey and healthy!

No you don't have to tip him...TFCD is a straight exchange of services. I have never heard of a model tipping a photographer.

Agreed... You could give him a bottle of wine..(all photographers love wine):) :) :)

I just bought one of those new HD face powders that are out now. They seem to be most if not all silica and are reported to have light blurring properties to give a sort of "soft focus" look to your skin. This might be helpful for those of you having photoshoots!
