Anybody have any input on this? How is the quality, and should I get the cowhide or goatskin? I'm somewhat new to the whole "good" leather jacket thing, so any input would be nice.

Magnoli's jackets are made on a production line in Asia. He is not a premium maker and although the quality is reasonable, it is a far cry from the quality of most of the makers on this site.

They turn up on ebay.de

Many Germans won't take Paypal (or even know what it is) which can be a downer.

Badwolf? I'm leaning towards Dr. Who (I'm sure everybody here is sick of hearing that ;))

I purchased a Dr. Who jacket from Badwolf several years ago.
Try to make a long story short.....
Not at all impressed with the leather. Size/fit were very bad. Arms way too short...flared at the bottom...binded at the shoulders/arm pits.
Sent it back...they were going to re-do it. Was in London when it was supposedly finished....emailed them to see if I could pick it up there to save on shipping. Didn't hear back from them till I was back in the states.
After the jacket was "re-done" they wanted me to pay for the re-do, plus shipping to me . I told them to keep the jacket. Didn't want to waste throwing good money after bad. Didn't ask for a refund. Just wanted to be done with it.
In retrospect...I have some doubts if the jacket was actually made by a "respected London leather jacket fashion maker" as I recall they stated at the time. They never would divulge who the maker was...and when I was actually in London, they never got back to me about where the "maker" was located so I could visit/get fitted/pick up the jacket. The jacket quality made me think of some made in Asia jackets I've seem some companies sell.
Go with an Aero "Mariner", and ask them about doing a few modifications. It is a VERY similar design, will be top quality. Top quality maker. Won't charge you if the jacket needs adjustments/etc.

If you go Aero just mind the thickness of the leather. A big jacket like that will be very heavy (7 or 8 pounds) and (to me) uncomfortable to wear. Believe me I tried it and I'm six feet two and 185 pounds. If you're new to leather jackets, you might find wearing a heavy, unyielding slab of hide over your shoulders a drag. I'd go no thicker than 2.5 oz. Schott make a pretty nice jacket in a similar style.

And yes there are Magnoli fans out there and he does reasonable items. He'd be the first to say his stuff is not up there with Aero or any of the premium makers. Best thing is his total customization plan. You can get whatever you want.

If it's the Doctor Who coat you're after, try eBay for second hand German police jackets and other similar styles. The old double breasted leather jacket was very popular for decades. I had an original - gave it away - too heavy....

I have the Wested Dr. Who jacket , made in horsehide , for £165 before they put up the price.

Not the same quality as my Aero Barnstormer , but amazing value for money.
If you want to customize the jacket , just email them , and Gemma will help you out.
Even had a reply from Peter himself when Gemma was on Holiday.

I agree that both Gemma & Peter are very helpful. And their stuff is great value. However, they were unable to give me sizes for the jacket I wanted (a ROTF) - the only option was to buy an unreturnable jacket without knowing how it would fit. A shame.:eeek:
