Sounds Good

I'm in the middle of a move anyway, so I have time to wait for a PM. When I unpack the box with that jacket in it, I'll set it aside.

Appreciate the board's patience with our side conversation!

trading my badwolf for a modified magnoli

Hello Everyone,
first time posting long time reader. I have been very interested in a great u-boat jacket forever. I think I am going to try to get magnoli to make me a kriegsmarine accurate (Like the one's you see in das boot) I have lost some weight and I currently have my badwolf jacket on e-bay for sale. Just search u-boat jacket and it'll pop up. I am planning on using the money to fund the magnoli jacket. One thing though, I talked to someone who said if you want something in particular from Magnoli, you really have to beat the point with a hammer over and over again, to get it right. Anyone have any experience ordering a modified jacket from him? I would also be willing to trade my badwolf for a original or reproduction grey u-boat jacket. Thanks, Ralph Drew

Not sure if anyone here has one of my U-Boat jackets, but there are a couple of written reviews on my site about this jacket:

I'm actually in the process of tweaking this model to make it more Doctor Who accurate (if that's what you're interested in). All current and future orders will be made with these new details. The photo on the site should be updated within a month or so. I like the new design so much, I'm making myself one of these with a wool lining for my new winter jacket! ;)

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Does Magnoli no longer advertise in the FL? All I see now are Overland ads...

I never had to "beat a point" with magnoli. But I was the first to order a u-boat jacket form him. So it was my initial feedback that came up with his original design. I think with every order and more feedback the design gets better. All his work is custom made so anything you ask him to make, he will.

Now the grey ones in Das boot are a lot simpler jacket then the one on doctor who. If I recall they had no back belt, it was longer, straight cuts of leather (so straight seams) ect

At any rate. I would contact Magnoli and have a little chit chat with him. see what he can come up with for you. I have full confidence in him and his ability. I you want it grey, just ask him.

No I have not seen Magnoli around here lately. He is active over at www.filmjackets.com checkout there forum.

Hope that helped.

I love this style, just a shame I am rather to fat for it now, maybe 30 years ago;)http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/hughes-jacket-custom-made-leather-jackets-by-magnoli-clothiers-p-211.html

That is a very cool jacket!:D

I love it but personally I think it would have a rather dated look. That is to say I dont think you could really match it with anything modern without looking odd, go the full hog for the 1930s look and yes it would look like it was out of the 1930s. I'd still like one though:D
This looks like the jacket that Leonardo DiCaprio wears in the early part of the film 'The Aviator'

The UBoat/Dr Who jacket of the original post is more 'wear friendly' and matches easier to todays cut of clothing.

Also reminds me of the jacket worn in the Howard Hughes biopic film The Aviator

I believe there is a reason for that, as Magnoli specializes in Hollywood reproduction jackets. From the Magnoli site;

"Hughes Jacket

This wide-flapped flying jacket embodies the extravagant nature of aviator Howard Hughes. This stylish jacket can be worn open, half-buttoned (as shown) or buttoned to the neck and features adjustable side tabs and a double breast pocket."

That jacket calls for Jodpurs (sp) riding boots, helmet, goggles and a side arm and then you'd be good to go! Beautiful...

Worf
Agreed Worf, but would anyone really try to carry that look off everyday.
Now where did I leave my Indian Chief parked

I got a tailor here in Vietnam to make me a Hughes jacket. It wasn't perfect, the collar and lapels weren't quite right Indy would have done a better job, but I think that a custom water buffalo jacket for less than $200 was nothing to complain about. I put snaps on the collar to keep them from flapping in the wind.

It's not the best picture, but it's been to warm for me to wear it these days and do a proper "shoot". The jacket is unusual, but I get nothing but compliments from westerners and Vietnamese alike. And it is "dated" but isn't that what the FL is about anyways - wearing dated clothes?

Stylin' and profilin' man... stylin' and profilin'! The idea of quickie cloths made on the cheap in Asia brings back many a memory... many a memory! Thanks...

Butte, Worf - you guys make me smile. Come down to see China Beach anytime.
Anyways, back to the Dr. Who Jacket. Besides Bad Wolf, Magnoli, what are the others?
