Wow ... just wow.

Magnificent tailoring. At their best, the Dutch suit makers were in a class by themselves.

Went for $200. It's fair to say that practically no tailor today could match the design and workmanship.

There are at least a dozen (probably twice that) tailors who could replicate that today.

Mind you, we're talkin' north of 6k.

Given the number tailors around (and people who purport to be tailors), even 24 is probably a small enough number to fit into the "practically none" category.

One Too Many
I was watching that auction and almost took a shot at it myself. However, the original owner was a fair bit larger that I (really!), and I've already got a very similar tuxedo myself.

I would've felt bad if I'd taken it from someone more deserving ;)

(And I'm really loving on some of the other stuff that seller has up, but I don't know if I can justify spending the money...)

Midnight Blue

I remember hearing that Midnight Blue in the evening light looks blacker than black. I couldn't find one whne I was looking but I am content with one I got that was made by Gieves and Hawkes of Savil Row
I really like the waistcoat on that one though, don't see enough of that style around.

Let us know if/when it arrives and what you think.

Another pretty nifty tux

I just had this handed to me by the post man. I won it on Ebay just a few days ago, and it made it across the pond in an amazingly short time.

It has all sorts of wonderful hand detail, which I hope come out in the pics. The original owner was obviously taller and leaner than I am, so some alterations will be in order. The trouser length will not be big deal, but it has beautiful buttoning cuffs that I hate to tamper with.
The waist could be let out a tiny smidgen, and it's amazingly high waisted!
I just pulled it out of the plastic mailer, so it's still pretty wrinkled.

Button fly, and all sorts of nice detail around the waist. Maybe you can make out the elegant tape down the side.

The identity of the original owner has been snipped out! You can barely see the written info on the label. Probably a well known member of the aristocracy, I'll bet an Earl, or maybe a Duke!

I'm going to be playing Jack Warner in a play in April, and Jack will definitely be well dressed for the big party scene!
