I came across the http://www.mackenziebags.co.uk/index.html stall at the Edinburgh Festival today. This was interesting to me as I was aware that their briefcases had good reviews on other style forums but I'd never seen one in the flesh.

I had been tempted to buy one of their Officer's Briefcases a couple of years ago but never followed it through, stupidly opting for something from the US which didn't work out. Today I was able to have a good look at one and was very impressed indeed - very solid, well-made and it looked like it would last for years.

Unfortunately I can't see me using that briefcase in the near future, but ordered a large Post Bag instead, in their Waxy Pull-Up leather. I'll report back on that when it comes in a month or so.

My wife bought a belt and also one of their Cartridge Cases, which was really solid, impressive in a subtle, understated way and generally much better value for money than anything you'd get on the high street.

Those are very reasonable priced belts. I'll wait and see how the Equus one works out, but will definitely have a look at them the next time.

The guy does it all himself and has his workshop in Edinburgh, if you're passing.

I changed my order to a large satchel and also ordered a bespoke man-bag thing, as it looks rock solid. I'm flogging two overpriced Belstaff bags to offset the pain.

The satchel has arrived and I like it a lot. It's in brown oil-pull leather with green pigskin lining and has a nice thick feel to the leather. It's 40x30x11cm and should look good after it's been knocked about a bit and suffered some scratches.

I have another bag coming in a week or so, but it's smaller, stiffer and made of bridle leather.
