MAC to Launch Marilyn Monroe Collection in Autumn 2012

I got my wife a bag already. Now she's trying to fill it:

The "All Typed Up" bag was for our 20th Anniversary last year, the "Call Me" for 21. Oddly, that's not my pic, but those are the two she has as well. Nothing has ever spawned so many conversations as those bags.

Yeah, just picked them up. Thankfully, my daughter gets 40% off because this haul is ridiculous. You could do makeup for two movies with what they got. To be fair, my wife buys all the XMas gifts ahead of time, so it was "a good deal"

Yea, this! Could care less if someone wants to camp out to buy anything -- go fo it! I'm a huge advocate for doing something fun and weird that you normally wouldn't do!! More annoyed at MAC, really!

Yes, they really lost something when they started putting out story after story. I personallybstopped buying for a couple of other reasons. I don't like how under handed they have become.

All that hype and they are unable to deliver -- that's what is annoying me. If you're going to hype your product up that much and you KNOW it's going to sell like hotcakes because of the Marilyn Monroe name, it's best to make enough to fit that demand. Maybe they will and maybe when the hype dies down it won't be so bad. But as for now -- annoyed at MAC.

I don't think they will. They get so many orders ahead of time, on items they know will be a big deal (ahem, Marine Life * you should have seen forum arguing over that one), that they see it as a positive.

They're modeling themselves after Apple - at least the old Apple. ALWAYS under-estimated the demand, and p*ssed off everyone who wanted the new gadget. They're much better now, but I do believe there is some under-production to raise desire amongst consumers. It does work, and they ain't totally stupid.

^ Urgh!! I saw a set of the 4 lipsticks for "pre-sale" on ebay - $150!!!

I went by the MAC counter this evening and the SAs there said they are being told by higher-ups they expect stores & counters to have lines on the 4th, and to sell out of the entire collection within 2 hours. I've also heard they are only getting 3-5 of each item. Blech. I'm very put out with MAC over this one. Fail!

I've never been a fan of MAC cosmetics. I think they feel waxy and look cheap. I was told by a makeup girl a long time ago that the cheap drugstore line, Prestige is made by MAC, Covergirl is Estee Lauder, Loreal is Lancome, the only difference being price point and packaging. I don't know if that is true or not, but I do see the similarity in the lines. What is all the hype about?

Yes. Lancome is made by L'Oreal, as is Shu Uemura, Estee Lauder once owned Jane, but not Covergirl (P&G who also owns Dolce & Gabbana cosmetics). Yes, many similar products. I have heard that Shu mascara was the exact same as their L'Oreal versions, and noticed when both had pigment sticks, they were very similar except price, of course.

MAC has been doing this 6 pieces of X item, 3 of Y item for a while now. Super annoying. I also dislike that many advertise via You Tube, etc. makeup "gurus."

I love MAC makeup! The only makeup that doesn't break out my skin! I guess I do look "cheap" lol (not that I mind because I love makeup fakery!)

I'm just gonna ignore this whole MM thing and go back to the MAC I love
