M1872 Indian Wars Hat?

This hat is being sold as an M1872, and comes from a large collection of good Civil War period items, but the brim seems short to me - most of these were very wide brim. Even if not official military issue, a normal 1800's hat used by the military would have good value I guess.

Opinions? The brim is 2 5/8", crown is 5 1/2"

"This was a simple blue blouse or "sack coat" similar to that worn in the Civil War. It would be worn with a new model-1872 wide-brimmed (very wide) campaign slouch hat of the same color. This hat was issued to all types of units; cavalry, infantry, or others. Besides looking sloppy, it proved to be almost unwearable due to its size. Soldiers tossed it aside or often cut it down to make it useful."

Looking for opinions if anyone has one. I do realize what an m1872 is supposed to be and my opinion is that this one is not. I would like to hear opinions of others here.

IF genuine, it has been cut down and the edge bound after initial production. Not all that unusual for that particular type of hat from my reading. I am not sure if the other items are correct for this type of hat, but on the good side - what other cowboy hat was ever folded in such a ridiculous manner?

Did you look at the Campaign hat thread shown above? Those guys know more about these.
