LUFTWAFFE FLiES: LEWiS LEATHERS 'DOMiNATOR' Review

Heh, it came with the zeppelin... this was a case of the blind grain finding a chicken - I was looking for a jacket for a long time and really looking for something vintage but a size 52 isn't easy to come by that'd actually fit.... and then I was one night just browsing.

My cycle jacket is a brand new "German pilot" $199 one off eBay Motors with CE-armor and a obscene clingy lining with a snap-vest and zippered vents in the armpits (if you look closely at the top pic you can see the other armpit glittering)...

But - outweighing the odds - it had a one-piece back and the details were... there. The leather quality is OK - its thick and stiff, sizing was "a fit", pocket insides were excellent... so apart from the lining I was quite happy... (and I sold the armor). What made me even happier was when I bought it the euro/dollar exchange rate was truly favorable, and this one managed to evade the customs as well, so it was a really sweet deal being new and even sweeter when I pulled it on and the sleeves were long enough stretched out front and the jacket didn't ride up to my armpits either.

Originally it had metal buttons I changed to the leather bobs, added one to keep the collar strap in place when not in use, as well as added the little snap strap to keep the buckle in place when its worn unzippered as its swinging around - the original would be much lighter but this hurts...

Now as for the looks I did the "washing machine" treatment and yes - you guys inspired me - slept in it to get the arms to mold... needs a bit more greasing still. The leather underneath is dark and the color rubs off nicely when wet to make a bit of the aged look... I guess a new cotton brown checkered lining with the striped silk sleeves and then it's "getting there".

Snug fit?

Really looks like a great jacket, I am just considering to buy one too.
But on the pics it doesn't seem to have a really snug fit, especially on the waist, right?

I think this was mentioned in an earlier thread. He kept the waist adjustment straps loose.

I have the exact same model jacket and you can tailor the fit with the side straps.

This looks pretty much like a Dominator jacket, he is wearing?

LEWiS DOMiNATOR on...me?

yuppers, that's me in that thar jacket. (no, not the dude singing 'la montanara...very cool i must say) happy to clear up any confusion about the lewis and the fit.

it was actually a tad too snug for my taste around the chest...but according to more normal people it probably had the perfect fit...i wouldn't have gone any tighter...that's a size 46 on me, and i have a 45.5" actual chest measurement

my waist is a bit smaller than a normal size 46 (33-4" waist), so lewis, at no charge, took 1" off the waist, and as you see i still could have tightened up the side buckles to bring it in a bit more

as for the peter fonda type singing the german song, that jacket has some dominator qualities, but the leather is thinner and the collar is way bigger in that 70s shaft way, and even has a snap on the collar flap if you look closely

for the record, the dominator was totally early 60s which i love, but the eastman luftwaffe jacket which i have now is total 40s and more my cup of tea...it is made as a superb replica of a luftwaffe jacket, whereas even though the dominator was used in 'the battle of britain' movie (or a close other model), it is more a 60s jacket

p.s. i just went online and got 'la montanara' by heino...i lovvvve it! thanks for posting. was on the compilation "60 Jahre Schlager"...guess anyone who wears a luftwaffe jacket would have to like that song

Hello,
Could someone please update the picture links, I am very interested in this Luftwaffe style jacket.
I myself own a Luftwaffe replica from noble house and I love the style, front zipped pockets, zipped sleeves, regular collar...

Regards
