The BIG MON from Ballymena (Reverend Ian) & his hat.

I used to say good morning to him on my way to school in Belfast, as my parents lived in the next Avenue to him.

And strangely enough, I have just heard 'this morning' on BBC Radio that there is going to be a movie of Hollywood proportions made about his 40 'very active' years in Northern Irish politics. A man of many layers and complexities (as are many of us [huh] ).

Liam Neeson (Northern Irish born actor from Ballymena, of Schindler's List and Lord of the Rings fame), has been mentioned as a contender to play the role. So WHO will get the hat contract for this one??[huh]

THE HAT...In my book, if a well known public figure wears a fedora/trilby, then it cannot be a bad thing, as once again, it's showcasing THE HAT.;)

this is why i started the thread . . . I agree, whatever happens, a celebrity wearing a fedora not of the trendy type (read Kangol plastic) can be nothing but a good thing. The only problem is when the celebrity is controversial/polarising; then it might actually turn entire groups of people against the fedora. not that anyone seems to take any notice of this chaps hat . . .

As to the movie, i'd heard about it. (i think there was a story in the Guardian a couple of days ago, so you can guess how it was pitched.) Apparently there are two competing scripts in the works/movies being made, only one of which will have Jr. as an executive producer and get endorsed by the family.

I don't think its a major problem. I mean, fedora's are often referred to as "gangster hats". Al Capone was not exactly a mom and apple pie kind of guy.

Point well taken. Then again, Al Capone didn't stand up and call the Pope an anti-Christ to his face....

That being said, it would take an infamous tyrant's sartorial habits to make me stop wearing a hat.

Aye, he's a bit of a live wire.

Another brit politico, this time a Tory. Maybe he allowed the "reverend" to borrow his hat or borrowed one from him.

Kennneth Clark. Usually wears a better one than this, i promise. Known for cigars, beer and suede shoes in the House of Commons. used to host a jazz show on BBC Radio 2. For some reason he doesn't, any more.

Cigars, beer, Tory and suede shoes. Sounds like we would get along just fine. Kind of like Churchill. :D

Aye, excepting the tory part, this guy is one of the main reasons i got into politics (actually the tory part - that is, its absolute antithesis to the working class - is THE major reason i got into politics). If there were no whips, he would be one of the more interesting politicians in Britain. As it is, he's thoroughly whipped into shape. A character all the same, but.

And his other hats are truly FANTASTIC. Pity i can't find more photos. Good stuff.
