My two cats...Maggie and Callie. They are littermates, but they are very dissimilar in looks and nature. Callie is the mouse/rat/bat/mole hunter and loves to be outdoors. Maggie prefers to eat cat food out of a clean dish and is more of a home body. But there is one thing that they have in common...they both are always on the wrong side of whatever door thay may be near.

My heart just completely melted...what a cutie.

Don't let that sad, lonely look get you! They can play that scene with the best of them to get what they want. People think they are a less intelligent dog, but they are cunning and devious and supremely stubborn, much smarter than you'd ever think.

Atticus, your cats are gorgeous. My girls are from the same litter (just turned three on Easter Monday), and they too are very different personalities despite never having spent a day apart in their lives. They all have their own little quirks, which is what's so great about cats.... :)

LOL! I believe it. My brother has one and his name is Rascal. The name fits!

Oh, you know it's the truth. Randy is a sloth and rarely anywhere besides that spot and his food dish. Earl is ALWAYS up to no good and tries to make Randy look like the guilty one, but to no avail.

:D Seriously, when you see a cat camped out under a table like that they've either just perpetrated an act or they're fixin' to.....:p

Samantha my beloved Maine Coon Cat passed away at 10 pm Friday the 13th in her Papa's arms

I've posted about her many times, she had just turned 16 on the 8th and had been losing some weigh but other wise seem healthy.
Yesterday she wasn't waiting at her dish for breakfast and in the afternoon was lying semi-conscious on the floor.
I rushed her to the vet and she felt a mass, ultra-sound revelled tumors around the spleen and intestines.
At her advantaged age I didn't feel surgery would provide her with a quality life for her remaining time on earth and made the extremely painful decision to let her go.
The Vet gave her the injections through a catheter while I held her in my arms, she passed peacefully into the night and I'm devastated.
I brought her home for burial and showed her body to Chiquita my other cat who sniffed her and is now acting more skittish then usual.
I just finished burying her under the kitchen window where she used to like to sit and watch the world go by.
She was the sweetest most gentle soul I've ever known.
Here's her grave.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. It's tough making end of life decisions but I think you made the right one. She had 16 great years with a loving family, no reason to make her exit a painful one. Maybe it's time to get Chiquita a new playmate.;)

Thanks for the kind words.
Samantha and Chiquita were never friends, they tolerated each other at best.
I move to Sacramento in 2000 with Samantha and my ex, Samantha was just 5 year old.
Chiquita was a feral cat that hung around until my ex coaxed her in.
My ex is long gone but Chiquita is around and about 12 she won't tolerate any other people and goes nuts when she see another cat in the yard through the window.
She'd puff up and attack Samantha and I'd have to throw her outside to cool off, I like Chiquita but Samantha was and always will be 1st in my heart.
I know I made the right decision but I'm still devastated, she seem fine 2 days ago and now she's gone.
Our good-bye was short and she wasn't all there.
I've lost my Mom and several dear friends to cancer, cutting you open to do a look see just makes the end of your life so much worse.
At least we show mercy to our animal friends, our human loved ones have to suffer to the bitter end.
I've lost a lot of people and pets in my life but this might be the worst, every time I think of her beautiful kitty face I start to cry again...

My condolences, you are very strong to have made that decision in her best interest and I am sure she would be thankful.
We lost a cat last year, she was run over while I was out for an hour with the dog, and I sometimes still cry. We miss her every day, but the memory is always there.

Today I'm full of feeling of guilt and remorse.
Due to the economy I neglected to take Samantha to the Vet for her yearly check ups.
She used to weigh 15+ pounds when she died she was under 10 pounds, I could tell she'd lost weigh but no that much.
So now I'm beating myself up wondering if they could have discovered her cancer at it's on set and provided a chance for a longer life.
The Vet says many feline cancers are very fast moving but that provides little comfort for the hole in my heart.
Just 2 days ago she seemed fine, we spent bed time together, she liked to nibble and lick my fingers while I'm reading in bed, if I ignored her she would bat the newspaper or book.
The memories are so fresh and so painful.
If you have a pet especially if it's an older pet don't neglect it's health care you don't save any money in the end and the consequences could be tragic, I spent over a $1000 in emergency medical care for Samantha yesterday and all I have to show for it is a Dear Friend gone and a hole in my heart.

So sorry for your loss. It's always tough to lose a pet. You can't beat yourself up over it. You gave her a good life and loved her, and she loved you. That's all any pet can ask for.
