...Also, our 13 year old goldfish named Raphael (named after the turtle of course) died. He was won at a fair.

Here's Charlie Brown. He's been my faithful companion for nine years now - survived parvo, a broken pelvis, and bruised lungs (and all three from separate incidents!). He still loves to go on walks and play fetch.

My Charlie Brown...

I had to unexpectedly put my dog, Charlie, to sleep over the weekend. In a very sudden turn of events, we had to rush him to the emergency vet where he was put on a ventilator. Blood work and X-rays were done, revealing that he had a tumor and had virtually no red blood cells left. There was no good prognosis, nothing to do for him, but let him go.

I have been a complete mess ever since. I had him for nine years. He was my best friend, followed me everywhere. I miss him terribly. I keep seeing him everywhere in my house...I've cried so much that I dehydrated myself. My other pets are rallying around me, though - my three cats and my other dog, Tiny.

I miss my dear, sweet Charlie...

The Rainbow Bridge

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

I am very sorry for your loss. The unexpected loss is especially hard to understand. If there was one thing I could change about the pet/owner relationship is that neither would outlive the other. You gave him a tremendous life and years of joy.

Thanks, The Shirt. It was so sudden - that makes it twice as hard, I think.

Charlie looks like he was a good old doggie.

Cancer is an awful shock. Our kitty had it in her spleen. We had it taken out but her white cells were still waaay high. But so far (5 mos later now) she's the same old luvvy cat. We baby and adore her.

Give big hugs and skatches to your other critters.

AmateisGal, I am sorry to here about your loss. You made one of the hardest choices as a pet owner (having done this myself a little over two years ago). knowing that you did the right thing does not help you now but you could have not been kinder to your friend. My thoughts are with you.

Fletch and Russa, thanks so much. Things are getting better day by day and I've been able to recall so many wonderful memories of our nine years together with a smile on my face instead of tears. That helps. :)

I just picked up today a medium sized fish bowl and bought three small feeder fish... felt it time to get a simple classic bubble styled fish bowl and get a few fish to care for.

They're a little camera shy right now so, I'll post a photo or two later.

So sad when we lose one of our furry friends.
Their lives are briefer then our own but still burn bright in our hearts.
My beloved Meme has been gone for almost 12 years and while I love her replacement I still miss the quiet chirp meow that she'd greet me with mourning.

My brother and his wife got goldfish a number of years ago that were part of the center piece at a wedding. Man did they get big!

You know, gold fish of most varieties will grow to the size of their environment. I expect the little "feeder" fish I bought to grow a little since there is a lot of room in the bowl. Or, I may buy a few more for .28c or, buy a few that have grown a little... we'll see.

Here's one shot of them and their shy selves! See how they like to stay to the bottom of the bowl... they are quite young and aren't very mature yet. They hide at the bottom of the bowl when I walk in... Soon, they'll fly to the top of the bowl when they learn I feed them lol
