Aliens? Oh dear..... I'll never udnerstand quite why that's the one so many rave about: it's by far the weakest of that franchise (next only to the execrable AVP). AS an action movie it's okay, but such a disappointment next to the brooding, claustrophobic menace of its predecessor.

But that's exactly it. Cameron knew that going with the crawling, claustrophobic dread that the Alien was would never again work so switching it to what is probably the best pure sci-fi and pure action movie ever made, one that literally invented the genre that is still being copied today, was the smartest and the best thing that happened to the franchise. Every later Alien sequel is trying to rip-off the first movie while failing miserably and laughably. The fourth one is kind of entertaining but it's just... Ugh. Even Sigoureny Weaver said they're all quite horrid except for the first two.
