I've wondered how many guys might have used this back in the day before all the fancy stuff. Might be why so many have such a great look today? I've contemplated this, but haven't had the cajones to try it. Any pics you could share?

Yes, Stuart is his own man and he is very clear about how he does business.

I respectfully disagree. Clear to me means transparent. Determined he is, and that's fair enough, but I have never dealt with anyone providing as little transparency as him. After he had declined to share his numbers for chest and "regular" sleeve length, and after ignoring my subsequent request for _loosely_ classing the shoulder drape in a photo of me wearing a similar jacket relative to how he expected his sizes 38 and 40 to drape on me, he apparently started cutting my jacket (which had been fully paid for about six weeks at that point) to solely his own assessment of what size and sleeve length I'd need.

Further, he didn't even notify me of his having done so until I asked what the status was after a week of radio silence. (To put this in context: there is no more of the specific textile material to make another jacket. Can't just resell and get another.)
Worst tho, after he had previously stated that optional "non-rider" sleeve length (10% surcharge vs. "regular") was 24" (unless I specified something different, which I however felt still unable to without the aforementioned info), he now states it as 23.5". This now sounds too short for me. I had paid for customization because I have a bit shorter than average arms and plan to use the jacket for work rather than riding, but after he revised his initial size 40 and even 42 (!) recommendations to 38, and even more after he had stated the 24" sleeve length, I got in serious doubt as to whether a custom sleeve length was necessary at all. To be able to finally decide this after dozens of emails, I asked for the above mentioned photo based assessment, but instead he just started away.

If this is a tiring read, well, that's what it's been feeling like for me - AND for him probably, which makes it so puzzling. I neither understand why he didn't just put my allotted material aside until we had reached more clarity and I gave my confirmation. Couldn't he have put another order in my "slot" without any problems? I wouldn't have minded if that had meant waiting another full round of six weeks or so.

I really hope that he just mixed up his own numbers and that he has been making the best possible sizing choices in spite of what seems like a puzzling lack of concern in his emails. If it turns out he did, I'll be happy to forget about this ordeal and buy several more jackets from him, because once I have one that fits right, I guess we'll no longer have to have those conversations he apparently dislikes.

I'm not sure of what to do if not, tho. If the sleeves turn out way too short and/ or if the jacket turned out too tight, I would be able to claim the sleeve surcharge back from Paypal. I paid this separately from the jacket base price, which I sent as a "gift" payment (because I trusted Stuart!) and which is thus not reclaimable. But I'd hate to do ANYthing like that.

Also worth pointing out that due to the gift payment, he had no reason to be afraid of me filing a reclaim if _I_ had made the wrong sizing choices myself based on his _numbers_. I'm only thinking about this because he left me to guess, I was pondering, and he went to work essentially guessing.

It's true he is reluctant to customize, but he will. I had the sleeves shortened on the Australian safari jacket. On me, LW sleeves tend to be long, sometimes good and sometimes not. Damn, it's not a perfect world!

We're slightly talking past each other here. As said in an earlier post, sleeve and body length variations are a standard LW offer in exchange for certain upcharges. Shape alterations (i.e. increasing or loosening torso taper) are not possible, he says, tho I've heard of at least one customer claiming to have gotten one.

Hers a small update of the LW jackets in my everygrowing collection. (Ps sorry for the Long Post!)
First up the LW A2 which I wear I was pretty much every night since I got it in a trade switching off with teh roadhouse everynow and then. By far the most broken is LW I have. It looks awesome not stiff at all no more and I cant wait to see what it looks like a couple of years from now. I think the grain looks weird but pretty cool on the back where it looks like it has lines going down reminding me of sand on the beach.

Strokes1251, the grain on that LW A-2 is magnificent! When LW horsehide really breaks in, it's truly incomparable. Awesome jackets.

Real nice job on those photos. A year or so back there were a couple of Roadhouse on ebay, but I wasn't smart enough to get one. I was kinda tough on his heavy hide in a couple of comments, but the heavy Test is the one to reach for in nasty weather. It will protect you. I've got four of his jackets in the house. I sold one, but have pics. I'll get some posted.

I have a Ryder on order. TMithchell59 How did you find the fit of the Suburban?? I am right between a 42R and a 44R and went with the 42 in the Ryder for a closer fit. My J23 from LW is a 44R but that style is old school and a close fit as per the day. Fits nice. Would like to hear your opinion on the Suburban fit compared to your other jackets from LW

The Test ordered new is a 44. The Suburban used size 44. The Suburban and test are pretty similar. I could do a 42 in either of those jackets. I'm like you kinda between 42-44 depending on the jacket. I'm 5'9" 200 pounds. I don't think you will have a problem with the 42. The Suburban sleeves are a little long for my taste, but thats me. You know LW jackets so you should be fine.

I have a Suburban on order. I'm between 42L and 44L, but I always go for a size up. For layering, roomier fit. Sure, I don't get a better look with the slimmer fit, but I prefer the versatility of a jacket.
