I have shopped at Lord & Taylors several times in my life. In all my years I never saw or even thought that they would have carried such a soft comfortable hat. It has great proportions 5.5" crown and a 2-3/8" brim. This hat is so soft that it must have been used for summer as it could be crushable. It has no liner and does'nt look as though one has been removed. The cream colored sweat also makes me believe that it is not a formal hat even though it is black. Way to go L&T. I just wish they sold this type now.

Now, I need a nice light weight houndstooth in black and gray.

Douglas - again, you have excellent taste. The hat - an excellent prow.

Damone, if we were shopping at Lord & Taylor Sixty or Seventy years ago this type of hat would have been the norm.

Thanks John, I really kills me that at one time we could have gone into a department store and just bought a hat like this. Those days are long gone.

Douglas, I can probably help you out with that.......the houndstooth hat is practically an ICON down here in Alabama!!:D

No self respecting Crimson Tide fan is without one!:D ;)

Another nice one, Douglas-really a transition from sporty to serious, don't you think? Looks terrific. And Gentlemen-these will be the "good old days" not too long from now...

Ideaguy, I think that this hat must have been offered as a summer weight dress hat. It is black and the bow is conservative as well as it's shape. The fact that it was available as an alternative to the more coventional heavier hats is what is astonishing to me. The variety offered to men who needed or wanted to have a full range of seasonal clothing is what was great about that time period.
If we could only go back.
