hey everybody,

it seems to me, that there's a lot of knowledge about leather clothes in this forum. so i would be pleased, if you could help me with this question. i'm looking for a cafe racer like the schott 141 or the aeroleather one. in fact i'm quite into aero. i'm even already in contact with amanda and just about to order a mid-weight hh, two pocket, nickel zippers jacket in black. but i read so much about action backs, plain backs and goatleather, that it seems interesting to me if someone can give me a fantastic tip for beginners?

so if you can tell me something like, take this lining it´s amazing or never believe in amanda's advice when she tells to take size 38 for the trim fit or whatever please let me know.

thank you very much.

You can't go wrong with Aero. In my opinion the FQHH would be a better choice for a motorcycle jacket, but if you don't ride, then the mid weight would be the best choice.

The lining is up to you, depending on many factors. It looks as thought you may be in England. If so, I would choose one of the wool linings for those all too frequent chilly days that you guys (chaps?) seem to be so fond of.

Always take Amanda's advice.

sounds good, so i'm on the right track. i'm from germany and although the weather is quite rainy and cold here as well, i want the jacket to be as cold and thin as possible.

than you very much so far.

Hi Dino and welcome to this strange place.
The Aero Cafe Racer is a superb jacket with cool looks and outstanding quality. As Peacoat already pointed out the best leather for this type of jacket might probably be FQHH. The jacket is so simple in design that a smooth spray finish leather would possibly take away a bit of the jacket's aura, whereas Vintage FQHH in both black and brown would look outstanding. That's of course my very personal opinion and I am sure that others will disagree.

Here are some pics of my size 40 Cafe Racers:

Heavily modified (jerky HH, spray finish) but still a CR:

For a lining I strongly recommend Aero's B10 Gabardine outer shell cloth. It's as durable as cotton drill but much smoother and denser woven. It makes the jacket easier to slip on and the olive colour of the lining forms a nice contrast in my opinion. This is how it looks like:

thank you very much.

i was so close to order the mid-weight hh. but now i'm getting unsure. is there such a big difference in the look? i don't know anything about how they do the finish and in which terms it differs? but i like a more matt and not to shiny look. and as i said and don't want it to warm. don't those two points speak for mid-weight?

i really do thank you for the lining advice and the pictures. it's such a great jacket.

Dino,
have you already decided which colour to go for? If you want a black jacket and the leather has to be lightweight with a dull finish then there is no other way than to go for mid weight HH. But I strongly recommend to ask Will or Amanda to pick some rougher skins that show a good amount of grain variation.
I've seen Aero's black mid weight HH in person and I have to say that it is a formidable leather; thick and strong yet pliable with a lasting finish. Please bear in mind that mid weight HH doesn't have the water repellant properties of FQHH. Otherwise it's a good and comfortable choice for a CR (as long as the jacket isn't intended to be a pure bike jacket).
To get an impression of the leather look for the "Arado Luftwaffenjacke No. 1" here:

PS: Du meinst "oa Saupreiß und oa Bayr" unterhalten sich über Joppen? So ist das halt. Es gibt schließlich kein deutsches Forum in dem mit halbwegs Niveau (und korrektem Deutsch) über solche Dinge geplaudert wird...

I just received my new Schott 141 yesterday. I ordered it directly from Schott three days previously.
Seems very well made, and fits me perfectly, I just ordered my regular size (40).
Features which I like about this jacket are:
thick and supple leather well matched so texture is similar all over
bi-swing back and ventilated "football pleats" under the arms allowing easy movement
(this is especially noticeably when on a motorcycle, as they allow you to reach forward to the handlebars)
very sturdy zippers
zip-out liner which allows it to be worn in a wider range of temperatures
tab which snaps collar closed also folds back and snaps open so its not in the way when jacket isn't zipped up, a nice touch
interior pocket with snap closure

Will post some photos of myself wearing it when I have them made.
In the meantime, here is a nice picture of the 141 as shown on the US Wings website:

Servus,

I have a black FQHH cafe racer with two breast pockets and no side pockets.
I chose the black stuart tartan as a lining, had the collar extended to accomodate two buttons and got the plain back (no bi-swing option).

That makes it a somewhat tight fit on the bike, but that is what I think is the classic cafe racer fit, depending on the angle to lean forward on your particular bike.

anyway, it's a lovely jacket and I can only encourage you to trust Amanda's judgement when it comes to sizing.
