Dear hatters. I am new here and to begin with: my English is very bad! My excuses for that.
Okay. I live in The Netherlands and here we have no shops who sells Akubra. My number nine hat will be an Akubra Stylemaster Acorn Fawn and sadly I have to order it via websites from Australia. In search for this hat, I noticed that sites like The Hatstore, Hatsbythe100 and Australiangear are de same: exact the same price, shipment and also their websites!
Only the site of Everythingaustralian differs: cheaper in price and shipment, also the website. So, some help of you hat lovers would be very helpfull. My hat size is 56, but is an 55 fits me also, like my Stetson Penn. I am little bit confused which size my Stylemaster should be; the wheather here in Holland is not like Australia. As for the mentioned colour, I am light brown skinned (from India) with short grey hair and slightly bearded. So I do not know for sure: perhaps the loden is also an option. The other coulors I do not like for this model and my other hats are already navy, greenisch and grey. As a birthday present my mrs. will give me a Stetson Whippet in mink or cognac with Sage Trim. But I cannot decide which colour!
Please give me some advise! Tal
I am a size 59 but the Akubras that I have fit just a little on the tight side. I have the Stylemaster in the Fawn and moved up to a size 60 and it fits me fairly well just a touch loose which to me is better than too tight. The colour is very nice and I think it would be a better match with a wider range of clothing than the Loden. I have purchased 3 hats from Everything Australian and think they are great. All 3 hats were shipped as scheduled and arrived on time.

So what you saying is that I can better take a 56 and when it is too loose I can adjust it? Sounds fair.. And the colour Fawn is indeed my first pick. Thanks!

Yes, it is easier to place shims in and size down than to stretch a hat. I have a weirdly sensitive head and if a hat is even a little too tight I get a headache. AND I have big enough ears that if it is tooo big the ears will stop the hat from covering my eyes!!

Thanks both of you! I wonder why no more hat lovers give their opinion. Is it because I am someone oversea or perhaps my ancestry... Or perhaps the wrong forum. I do not know....

OR you could look at it from the perspective that the advice that I and Deadly gave you was sooooo good, so spot on, that any further opinions would be totally superfluous. Sometimes too much information is NOT a good thing!

Yeah, you are right my friend.
How about the hat which my mrs. will give me: the Stetson Whippet in mink or cognac with sage trim (check JJ hat center!). And I definitely order my Stylemaster at EA. The thing is I had a call today from a Akubra seller here in Holland and he said he will try to find out where in Europe they sell this model. It appears that this model is to be bought everwhere except Europe... As you all noticed: all my hats are fur felt and next to these I have a Montecristi grade 13-14 and a Cuenca Fine.

Just my opinion here, Sila: The answers you received were pretty complete and were accurate, so as Belfastboy said, there didn't seem to be a whole lot for other posters to add. And your questions are relatively common and have been discussed before here, so not a lot of folks are likely to add replies just to be talking. There are a number of people from all over the world on this board, some of whom probably don't speak English as a first language, but I've never seen anyone treated poorly or given the cold shoulder. (Well, unless you ask a question with your first post, then argue with the experts about the answers they give... Then you might be in for a rough time! ;) ). I think you will find that this board is one of the most civil and helpful that you will run across in your internet experience.

Welcome to the Lounge! We hope you pull up a chair and stay a while!

Not to worry, I've seen nothing in your posts that would cause any offense to anyone at all. Good honest questions are what you have posted so far, and you will find that the folks here are glad to help. I've not even been here a year myself, and the senior members here have always been extremely helpful and very patient with me.

Take care!

Hello, newbie member here. The fedora Gary Cooper wore in Meet John Doe looks rather like the Federation IV Akubra (unless some else has some 411 I do not.) Is the Hattery in Oz the only source for the Federation IV Akubra?

Yes, the Fed IV is made exclusively for them.

This hat? I the Fed IV is probably not the best match. This one is slightly smaller all around (brim width: certainly, crown height: likely) and more tapered on the sides. Also, 2" ribbon.

First time buyer here. I thought I had narrowed my choices down to either the Territory or the Riverina. I eventually managed to get out to the local hat store to check for size and look. They only had the Territory in sand color. Initial comment from my wife was that the side brim seems to be coming up too high and looks strange on me. When I lifted the front brim a little causing the sides to come down a bit it looked better.

So. my questions are based on the shape of my face does this style suit me? Would the Riverina sit differently? Would reshaping the brim help? Do I need to look at a different model? I do want a wide brimmed hat.

I thought this would be an easy decision!

If you were my customer, I'd say no. The hat doesn't match the shape of your face. In my tag line, I say; "There's nothing worse than a great hat on the wrong head" And that is a great hat. Both a narrower crown with a bit of a taper and a narrower brim, or maybe just a turned up brim shape, maybe about a 3 1/2" or so in the brim That is, unless you're out in the sun a lot and need the extra protection. Then you've got a great work hat there when you're out in the fields or working cattle. ;)

Hi Mike. Useful input and that's why I asked. I am probably going to have to mail order a hat and need to know at least what won't work. I do a spend a lot of time outdoors mainly fly fishing and hiking and for that I usually wear my 3.5" brim Tilley LTM2 which I find works well. I need to poke around and look for hat along the lines of what you are talking about. Hopefully others here will chime in with their suggestions.
