But that's what it comes down to if you're buying retail. Even with the great prices from Garland, I'd still send the hat to Mike and have him fix the ribbon "tacks." I'm sure it's a personal thing, but those tacky tacks stick out like the proverbial sore thumb.

I got my first real hat - Stetson Saxon - and love it. I may get addicted to hats...I do have a quick question regarding the lining. There was a sticker with size info, etc. under the sweatband. I took it out but am now worried it also served a purpose to hold the liner in. The liner isn't glued or sewn in any other way - it just sits under the sweatband. Is this ok or did i mess up my first decent hat?

As long as your liner isn't falling put, it's fine. Most here would prefer an unglued liner. Glue is the "cheap and easy" way to fit a liner that has unfortunately become a modern standard on many factory hats. It is otherwise customary that the liner is secured with a few tacking stitches. But again, unless it's falling out, it's not really anything to worry about.

My new Chatham Royal. I'm actually liking it more and more. Still annoyed that Stetson advertises a Stetson box for shipping.

I have returned hats not sent in Stetson boxes as stated in the description. They have to honor it. This isn't a Stetson problem not an Amazon problem. This is third party sellers trying to be slick. Know your rights! This happened recently with a third party seller.

I own 4 Stetson hats I purchased at Amazon from Amazon. They had been in mint condition and shipped with box.

I live about 10 minutes from Loveland, cannot find any information about them online. I have treaded every knook and cranny in that town, never seen or head of them. Possibly they moved or closed? I cannot find a website or an address.

I am familiar with Greeley Hat Works, but they are very high end ($355-1000) and last time I checked, they are a Western cowboy hat store. Great hats, but out of my budget. UPDATE: They have a handsome fedora but that is pretty pricey!

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Greasehound,

I used to live in Denver. There was a men's clothing store that sold new fur felt hats, dress hats, not Western, in the Five Points area of Denver. Sorry I can't recall the name or the street, and this was in 1999 or so; they might be gone. But I bought a nice dark brown Stetson Chatham there.

I bought a Stetson Chatham on Amazon from Stetson. It came in a bag. Stetson has never responded to my emails. I am looking to buy either a Stetson Pinnacle Beaver fur or a Stetson Temple Royal. As far as I can tell, they are very similar other than one is Beaver and the other is Rabbit. Is it worth the extra money for Beaver? If I spent that much money, and the send it in a bag, I think I'd lose my mind.

If you buy it from DelMonico before tomorrow, you can get 15% off with code OCT17 (comes out to about $270 USD before shipping). They'll definitely give you a box. Sounds like you had a seller issue. Hatco (parent company of Stetson), ships them out in boxes as far as I know.

Yes, beaver felt is generally better. It has a softer hand and is more resilient. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure where the benefit is of paying for a pre-creased beaver hat is though.
